what to do if you receive fake models?

Post by darkchampion »

hey.. I got a good important question. What do we do if we receive fake models from a trade/deal?

I beleive I may have just gotten some fakes.. good fakes.. but still fakes.. I say good fakes, because I noticed some figures I got a few months ago were fake.. clearly different metal mix, and I could clearly see the second mold line.. and the new possible fakes I have.. well they scraped off the first mold line, but I can tell, partly because they didnt do it perfectly.. plus parts dug in too much..

Oh.. and so far.. all of the fakes/possible fakes are all cadians at ease.. something to keep in mind.. even though I'm trying to collect as many of these as I can so i can make a full platoon.

Different colors of metal and multiple mold lines do not a forgery make. Probably the only way to be nearly positive that these are fakes would be to send them to GW and have them take a look.

I've rec'd NIB GW minis in different metal colors, multiple mold lines, offset halves, etc. - all the things that the internet 'experts' portray as meaning a mini is automatically 100% fake. The only people who can be sure of forgery are those who manufactured it.

Now, obvious forgery (completely different metals/casting materials, etc) is a different story...
Trading Guidelines:
1. Lower rating ships first - even if I am purchasing.
2. If you agree to buy something, you have 72hrs. in which to pay. If payment is not received in 72hrs., I will automatically post a Non-Payment/Backout thread.
3. Refs are left upon positive receipt of goods, NEVER beforehand!
4. I accept Paypal & USPS money orders and charge for shipping AT COST. I make no profit from it.
5. I trade NIB/new models at retail.

Mold lines mean nothing... GW and other Companies are always repairing their molds to get the most life out of them.. which can lead to multiple mold lines...

Alloys will vary from batch to batch too...

Maybe it's just me, but if you're happy with it, and it's THAT hard to really tell, what's the problem? I don't think there's going to be a dead on definitite answer to your question.

If you're looking for the "at ease" pose of the Cadian, just ask for it in blister from here on out? I would imagine being a one piece that it would be very easy to cast/duplicate should one choose to do so.....

Well, NPD... I disagree with that point of view, myself.

If I'm spending MY money, I want to spend it on the real thing.

That's not even touching the fact that it's illegal.

Now, DarkChamp...

You realize that, as has been said, that doesn't necessarily mean anything?
The second set of models you have could be partially cleaned. It might be that he started cleaning 'em and said "to heck with it" and decided it wasn't worth it.
Especially if BOTH sets have a double mold line. it's quite coincidental.

Just my thoughts here.

well I'm not so worried that the most recent set is fake.. but if the mold lines were cleaned, it was before it was molded.. cause its not shiny..

but I still thought it might be good to know of there are ways to tell that a mini could be fake..

Well, I do agree 100% with everything you're saying, however, what I'm getting at is one way or the other, he's stuck with/got the models, might as well just enjoy them. Now if that particular person kept on offering up the "at ease" Cadian pose, THEN I'd start to wonder! (Mac-Ace anyone?)

Seems to me like getting them in the blister is the only 100% fool proof way to aviod wondering whether or not you've got the real deal, especially in the case of "limited edition" models.

The only way to be 125% certain that it is >50% legitimate is to grab a sledge hammer and flatten them out, similar in shape and size of a pancake. If it then weighs the same as a duck, burn the witch, and then you'll know if you almost had something.

But what kind of duck? A mallard? Wood duck? What if I don't have a duck, but I have a swan? What if the duck is a forgery itself, a hunter's decoy? Hmmm......

I think the blister pack is the way to go! :-D

OK, now we're officially off on a tangent........LOL
