Right or Wrong in an unpayable transaction?

Post by Ikarus »

I have an issue = what to do.

APRIL/MAY 2007

I have contact this trader who has a LOT of postive ratings here on bartertown. He inquired about my army, which I showed him pictures and stated all the full conditions. He liked it, and told me to ship first since he has a very very high rating over here.

Being the normal trader, I followed.

The week he got it, I had no response but after another week or two, I just get that he is taking a look over the package. He also informs me that he is very busy, and I understand that.

JUNE 2007

So I wait a bit out, a few more days and ask to see whatsup. He says he there was jus some stuff broken through shipping but its all good.

Then he says he will get me a money order out while he is off on his job.
So then he assures me that he will get me the money out on the sunday of that week.

Later after that, he tells me his pay check isn't good and will not have money until another week or he can ship out the package back to me.

I say - I need the money, BUT if he can't give it to me, send me my package back.

He responds that next week or two will be very very good for him to get some money, and so he suggests I wait and I get paid.

I wait.

JULY 2007

so July rolls in. He says he can get me my money over the weekend.

I wait for it to come, nothing comes.

Next week - He says he has money on hand, but just needs to get to postal to get me my money order.

I'm cool with it.

Sent him an e-mail to see whatsup = no response.

14+ days after, he cancels the deal outright with me.

This is pouring into August.

So I suppose that I just HAVE to take my items back yeah? But this is something that is justifiable enough for a negative feedback? I'm talking about an individual with very outstanding standings here on btown, but I've been killed over this one, as I made plans around this payment he was ' supposedly' going to send me but never had, and now put me a couple hundred dollars short in debt once more.

This is something similiar to GreatWolf's post, except I'm dealing the other way around - a higher trader.

So I suppose i would just have to hit the guy with negatives after I get my stuff.

All I can offer is that if I were selling something outright, I'd expect payment first regardless of trade rating...

I'd say that grounds for a negative feedback, however i won't send money to a person with a low rating if i'm buying items...i think thats just asking for trouble...if you have a rating under 20 there is no way i'm sending you money first.

Cheers

I would leave bad feedback if it were me.

Money is a good like everything else; if your rating is lower, you ship first whether money is involved or not.

I'd smack him with one for sure.
I don't care WHAT the person's rating is. Bad habits are bad habits... and keep all your PM's/Emails and his, in case there is a dispute.

That's almost as bad as having an account here then, after getting some negatives and a BTR, starting a NEW account... then always managing to screw up any potential trades with the person(s) who left you a negative.

Lower rating? You ship first.

Hmmm.... agreed. Mostly due to the amount of money in trade for an army. Also for your time...
As a general rule, if you don't like my offer, please barter with me.

PLEASE leave him a negative... it would prevent others making the same mistake you did... If I was he did that to you, there is no way I would ship to him first, no matter the rating.

A nice little negative for him would be appreciated by the community so we don't get duped by him too. Thanks for doing your part to keep Bartertown safe from wishy washy traders.

Definitely negative feedback. From a certain perspective, this is also grounds for a Bad trader report if you've kept the communications.

I gotta say that this guy KNOWS BETTER.

Making you wait that long, and then backing out, that is just not right. (And apparently Insidius agrees with me on this one.. lol Hey its a whole galaxy of posibilites now. :-D )

Yeah, get your stuff back, and from what you've said here, I say leave him a negative AND POST him as a potentially bad trader. That seems like the best idea for everyone.

I'd definitley leave a bad trader report is possible on him, and a negative feedback.

It sounds like he treated it more like "hey can i borrow your army for several months" and never paid for it, just to send it back. Are your minituares in the same condition you sent them, have you recieved them back yet?

I mean I hate to say it, but you dont have an army sitting in your possession (from a gamers standpoint) for several months and never use it.

Im amazed you were as patient as you were, I definitley wouldnt have been, 2 weeks without payment and I'd be past the point you're at now most likely.

GL getting it resolved

Neg him. When I was reading your initial post, the thought of..

"He is borrowing your army to play with it, and see if he likes it" went thru my head.

I also do not see in the OP that you have gotten your army at all.. just that he cancelled the trade. DID he send the army back yet?

Money makes it tough.. and I echo the sentiments of others that in a sale, CASH first, irregardless of references.

2+2=5 for sufficiently large values of 2.

If you don't have your Location listed in your User Control Panel, why not take a second and update it? It will let your trading partners know where you are from the beginning.

I use the Unofficial Porkuslime Trading Guidelines - if you have way less refs.. you ship first.

Folks I am awaiting a ref from.. Zack
