If something is marked PENDING....
Please, please, please, READ the ad before replying to it. If something is marked "PENDING", that means it's currently in trade or negotiation and so is unavailable.
I have no idea how many PMs I've responded to in the past few weeks from those who ask about pending trades that are clearly marked as such. It's rather annoying.

Trading Guidelines:
1. Lower rating ships first - even if I am purchasing.
2. If you agree to buy something, you have 72hrs. in which to pay. If payment is not received in 72hrs., I will automatically post a Non-Payment/Backout thread.
3. Refs are left upon positive receipt of goods, NEVER beforehand!
4. I accept Paypal & USPS money orders and charge for shipping AT COST. I make no profit from it.
5. I trade NIB/new models at retail.

well,
sometimes pending things fall through, perhaps they are hoping that is the case and you have yet to update.
I used that method for a while, just like you are and I was also asked numerous times about things "pending."
I decided I had 2 routes, not change anything until the 7 days were up, or take them off completely and if it was still available I would repost at the 7 day mark. Or I could answer over and over that it was pending.
Perhaps you should change your methodolgy instead of getting mad at people hoping to make a trade with you.
Just my 2 cents!!

Oh, I'm not mad, just somewhat annoyed since, it hasn't been a reply like "I know this is pending, but was wondering.../if it falls thru.../etc." (which I have rec'd and I don't have a problem with).
What I'm talking about is the increase in people who write "I want item X and have A, B, and C for immediate trade" or the like. Not even acknowledging that the item is pending and/or, when pointed out that it is pending, say "well it's not marked pending" - even though it's clearly marked PENDING right next to the item.

If it annoys you then I'd remove stuff from your add. You're already going in and editing it to say pending, just remove it from your haves list instead.
If something's a good deal I'll contact the seller anyway (although I do say "hey I see this is pending, but..."). In fact 2 weeks ago I contacted a guy about some stuff that was pending. I had contacted him when he first listed it and ths was at least a week later since it was a repost but now it was marked pending. I figured I'd give it a shot anyway, well to make a long story short it was pending for me. I hadn't gotten his reply but he was still holding it for me. It was great of him to do it but if he'd removed it from his list I'd have missed out on it and he'd have just figured I'd flaked out on him. So the sword cuts both ways...

Well I put up my trade list as is. I don't want to make 3 separate lists and shouldn't have to, as it would just be more confusing for me and could lead to mistakes.MEDEVL wrote:If it annoys you then I'd remove stuff from your add. Also, like I said, I have no porblem if someone asks about something that's pending, acknowledges that its pending, and just puts in a "just in case".
My problem is with the increase in people who aren't reading ads and don't acknowledge an item's status.

I'm glad you inserted that part.
I do that stuff ALL THE TIME... I think I've even done it to you! <G>
I was sitting here thinking, "Oh, man! He's talking about me!"
LOL
I agree, though. It's one thing to post a "just in case" PM, quite another to make assumptions that "Pending" trades don't matter.
Eric
Lower rating? You ship first.
Give me a sense of humor Lord. Give me the grace to see a joke.

I think what this situation needs is some imagination.

Want my help with a BTR or backout? All messages sent/posted should be in CHRONOLOGICAL order. Otherwise, I just won't read it.

ancientsociety, what you just said is like asking people to not reply "PM Sent." I'm sure you remember how that thread went.
But IMO if I saw something pending, I don't see it as unavailable. I see it as there are bidders. Unavailable would mean one if not both parties have sent parts of their trade agreement already. If I saw something as pending that I needed badly, I'd simply send a PM and ask "Is xxx still available?" I would also have a chance to counter-offer any pending trades for that item if it came up. If you don't want PMs sent for items that are unavailable, then just take them off the list. I'd hate to admit it, but when it comes to some people, you need to keep things as simple as possible. Even 24 size bold print font doesn't always get through to some folks.

That happened to me too, lol! Though in my case contact was broken due to BTown going wonky for a bit if I remember right. But back to the topic. I use Pending like this while stuff is in motion but when everything is settled and we both have what we wanted then I remove the items from any of my listings as just plain text won't cut it but color it up a bit and it'll make a better impression (marketing studies show this again and again) but don't go crazy with the color, or font size, as that will drive people away (again, studies). Just use common sense and splash a little eye catching pop around when needed. And while it can be annoying going through what the TC mentions I seem to almost never have that happen to me after doing the color thing though of course that won't stop the people who think anything and everything in sight is fair game but that's just human nature/people for you.MEDEVL wrote:I had contacted him when he first listed it and ths was at least a week later since it was a repost but now it was marked pending.
