Neutral Feedback Question

Should probably use The trade reference system (ITL) but if you want to post something else, do it here.

Neutral Feedback Question

Post by ancientsociety »

Finished a trade a few weeks ago. For now, I'll leave out the other party's s/n, and simply refer to them as J. Being a new trader, I sent my stuff first (fedex). J assured me he would send right when he rec'd my stuff. J acknowledged he had rec'd my half via email but then kept putting off his shipment. Finally, a week later (I know, not as long as some ppl here have waited), J finally sent. However, when I rec'd the minis, they were packaged very badly (in a thin GW box), had been heavily converted, some were painted, etc. J had told me none of this (from what I understood they were new - although this was not explicitly stated).

I informed J, he apologized and offered to "make it up to me" (free mini). However, at this point, I had just had enough trouble. I'd like to leave J neutral feedback. Does this seem appropriate?

Also, I have the sense that, if I leave him neutral FB, he'll leave me neutral as well - which J shouldn't. All my half was exactly as described and sent very quickly.

Tricky One....

Without knowing how the items were described it's hard to say. If the minis were misrepresented, then you would be justefied in leaving a neutral reference.

A week, while long, does not fall into the timeframe that would cause me to write someone off. If he is sincerely trying to rectify the trade you should hear him out.

Probably not as big of a deal with a neutral, but if someone threatens you with unwarrented(negative) feedback contact a mod.

Whatever you decide to do. For future trades, make sure you ask a lot of questions regarding the items condition(I was burnes on this myself on some of my earlier trades).
If I owe you a reference, please let me know. I accidentally deleted my PMs.

If trader "J" knew of the poor condition of his minis and purposely didn't describe them to you, then his trading practices are, or should be seen as, questionable. I've had a few trades where I was the one trading off items that were less than mint and felt it compulsory to inform the other trader as to my minis proper condition. Many other traders, I feel, are the same. No one wants to be on the receiving end of a crappy deal!

Negative feedback may not be totally warranted, but neutral definitely should!

Ancient,

Have you and "J" discussed just sending each others stuff back to each other? I have had this exact situation happen a couple of time recently. I just wrote them back and said, hey, this isn't going to work for me. Perhaps you could offer to pay his original shipping costs. It may cost you a few bucks, but may be completely worth it if his stuff is in such poor shape.

After that attempt, I would tell the other person that you are planning on leaving neutral feedback because of the situation. Let them know, and of course follow up, that you have contacted a moderator to let them know of the situation and that you fully expect them, if they are happy with your models, to leave positive feedback. If you have offered an even up return of items, with a few bucks thrown in, they cannot leave anything but good feedback.

You could also at this point, tell them you expect some sort of compensation if they are unwilling to return/exchange the intitial trade. It could be monetary or it could be additional models.

I do know that retalitory fedback is really frowned upon here in Bartertown and the mods will not treat people lightly if it happens.

I would happily be a medator between you both, if you need help. As a member of the newly created BT watch team, I will be offering my services in this area, as well as others.

Please keep us updated so we can continue to help as much as we can.

Ekister: Well I've already traded them away (thanks A!). And, after having waited over a week for my half and the condition they were rec'd in, I wouldn't have wanted him to send it back anyway.

This is why I mentioned it "wasn't worth the trouble". He DID offer me a free mini but I couldn't use it and who knows what sort of condition it was in. I've emailed him and told him as much and that I'd probably leave neutral feedback but he hasn't yet left feedback in my acct. This is why I have a bad feeling about leaving the feedback.

This is why we have the rule on retaliatory feedback. :-)
