They do it because they know they can get away with it. They know that the American legal system for the most part is an utter joke, and even if they do get caught, little to nothing will happen to them.

You're pretty jaded, so maybe you should step back and reread what you've said.

I'm a smarter person than most, and as such, capable of "getting away" with pretty much anything I put my mind to, if I cared to do so. But I don't....why? BECAUSE I WAS RAISED WELL and I'm and Eagle Scout. This makes me (or is possible because i am) and honest person. You can't say that every person, when they can get away with it, will do bad acts. That's a really dim view of humanity.

Good people exist, and unfortunately, as one of them in a difficult line of work, it's your job to not deal with any of them. You only ever see the bad people, as a cop (or the good people they hurt).

The bottom line, though, is that there is something that makes those people bad, beyond them seeing the can get away with it. They lack empathy, and don't care that they hurt others, like you or I would care if we caused someone else hardship. So you can't completely discount the view that there is something fundamentally wrong with the bad people in the world. It's generally not that they were born with a mental disorder, or anything like that, but that they developed in a way that is counter to what society finds acceptable. This throws into the longstanding "nature vs nurture" argument, but the important point is that at some time in their lives, these people cross a line and become habitually bad people. You dehumanize yourself to imply that their no different than you or other good people in the world.

OK, let me rephrase, BAD people do those things because they know they can get away with it. You're absolutely correct, there is a difference between good people and bad.

That's more in line of what I meant. Just like there are inherantly good people in the world, by default, there must be inherantly bad people.

Now what makes people inherantly good or bad is a discussion that I DO leave up to the boys with the pschology degrees........ :D

NPD, thanks for that truthful insight its something I see in my home town and on the new everyday the drunk drive thing also strikes home being a Nurse Aide and caring for several patients who had run-ins with drunk drives  that is a topic I best not touch to much it really gets my fire stoked

But the stuff of your a product of your environment I find its a bunch of crap

and I Erik I do agree with your statement of the system being made to be broken I have a rather foolish step-brother who has no liecense and can and will probably never beable to get one why? Because he'll drink and get caught and drive with no liecense and get caught not pay his fines, got to prison or jail get out and do it all over again...

You see it on the news it seems daily here I dont know about other state and parts of the world its always the smae story when they get caught its always someone elses fault.

Exactly.........sad thing is, I used to work for a maximum security prison before I became a police officer. I had a guy that was listed as a habitual offender and finally got 10 years in jail.

Guess how many times he was caught drunk driving before some judge finally said enough is enough??? 37........no, that's not a type-o, 37 drunk driving convictions before someone gave him something other than a slap on the wrist.

Tell me the system ain't broken...........

And the sad thing is, that's more commonplace than anybody can ever imagine..........

Wow I never would have thought it was that bad. So would you say that there are just as many net scammers and thieves out there than normal scammers and thieves?

It's hard to say. I usually, well pretty much never, deal with internet scammers, just your "normal" low level scammer.

I would have to say, no, however, because technically the panhandler on the street that is a "vietnam vet" or "will work for food" guy, who is really just getting your hard earned money for crack, cigarettes and Colt 45 malt liquor is technically a scammer as well.

I'd have to wager that your "street level" scam artist/theif is more prevalent than internet ones.

Will-...you sound like you're trying to preach anarchy. You have to at least TRY to maintain rule of law.

Also, you're absolutely wrong about the lack of "bad people". There are people of willfullly, habitually do wrong to others and they are bad people, plain and simple. To an extent, many laws define right and wrong arbitrarily, but others were defined by God a lot longer ago, and have ALWAYS been the definition of what is the right thing to do...ie. don't steal, kill, etc. There are certain aspects of morality that are universal (even non-Hebrew/Christian peoples follow those sorts of rules) and they pretty clearly define truly good and bad people, despite what you seem to think.

You seem to like to rip on modern psychology...whatever, I'm not a psychologist so I don't take it personally. But don't back your self up with philosophical arguments...they are ALL matters of opinion, with their meaning in the eyes of the beholder.

Hmm..

I've always thought that I'm a bad person. I'm simply not any good at being bad.

So I do things the right way, and I do good things.

Bad is only ever rewarding on tabletop games. In reality you have to deal with peopel crying and the whole "going to teh slammer" and getting a new friend named bubba.

I'd much rather stick with being evil on the tabletop, at least they have better rules than the real life counterparts

I guess I'm a simple person when it comes to things like this would I want someoen to steal form me no...so do I steal form others...no would I want someone to scam me no so do I scam others...no its a simple rule and boils down to simple common sense and even the lowest level moron in the gutter(thats the Antisocial behavior in me I'm really not a people person) posesses.

As far as crime and punishment it seems punishments never fit the crimes maybe thats why people and the same people keep commiting crimes.

Am I suppose to feel bad for the guy who was convicted of autothief, bank robbery and trafficing...He:shock: eck no :!: will I ever feel bad no

Am I suppose to feel bad that someone woman and guy is stealing food to feed his kids...NO will I ever no (yes, its harsh and so is life if you cant feed'em dont breed'em)Stealing and stealing in the middle east your hand was cup off for stealing and I forget what it was in the middle ages in europe but hey it was a great deterant I think.

What happened in those times when everyone needed everyone in a community to survive...you know if you done work you dont eat deal.

But maybe I'm just a dreamer
