Blue Table Update 71- Flaming Death

Blue Table Painting Update
Monday, April 24, 2006
Issue 71

New Stuff
Blue Table is clearing out a lot of stuff on eBay. Frankly, some of these things were practice models or botched jobs that I wouldn't put forward as a commissioned work, or maybe they are just models that have been at the studio for a long time, waiting for a home, like a pitiful mangy puppy at the humane society.

All auctions have a $0.99 starting bid and no reserve.

There are also some new listings on the website:

Evil Dwarves of the Black Chasm
The Evil Dwarves are here. They turned out very well. They were done by a new painter. He moved here from Florida to work at Blue Table.

The Goblin Ashigaru are now on the block with the display board at no charge. Limited time only

Or you can indulge your inner Goblin and buy it here:

I think this would make a potent conversation piece. I just bought three ogre-types to be done as an expansion piece.

Now Scheduling for May
Some slots are open immediately (starting week of April 24 or May 1), but only a few. Mostly booking for mid-May for completion by the end of the month.

Have a project needs doing? Just send us a list of what you’d like done and we’ll help you through the process. If you decide that now is not the right time to have your work done, that’s just fine, at least you’ll know how it works.

Do you have a ton of unorganized pewter in the garage? You can just box it up and send it out. We’ll transform all those pieces into a finished army that you’ll be proud to have on your gaming table.

We accept Paypal. Using a credit card to make a Paypal payment is just as easy as a credit card checkout on a typical website.

Don’t like Paypal? A MO is fine. We’ll work with you.

Fire Dragon Shrine- on the block
The Eldar Fire Dragon army I’ve been working on the past few months, along with a display board, is up for sale now. Anyone want to snatch it up?

Project Breakdown 

I had a blast making the army. It’s not unbeatable, but when you do win it’ll usually be a systematic vaporization of enemy forces with no armor saves. It works fabulously against Daemonhunter, Witch Hunter and Space Marine armies. The entire army starts out in heavily armored fast skimmers, so that’s a tough thing to deal with for a lot of armies. Take out selected targets while drifting to one flank, then unload the forty Fire Dragons. This uses the Biel Tan list.

Meet the Staff
You can meet the staff here. I just took these pics this last week.

Two Armies for Fantasy- now 50% off
Blue Table has three unpainted Warhammer armies available: Skaven, and Beastmen. They are unassembled current edition models (except the Skaven have a few OOP stuff). If you would like to commission them, the materials are 50% off. Email for details.

Imperial Drop Pod Army
Work has begun on this army. We’re doing urban camo. The tanks and sentinels are almost done—they just need decals and detail work.

Imperial Guard drop troop army—heavily converted with 91 all metal infantry, four Sentinels, two Basilisks and a Hydra. All with jump packs or turbines. They are metal stormtroopers with double-turbine style drop packs. The vehicles are also heavily converted to be platforms with massive VTOL engines. The Hydra is perfectly legal from Imperial Armour 01.

See pics here (pics of painted infantry coming April 13):

Hrud
We’ve got a talented assembler chomping at the bit to make all those Skaven into a Hrud army. LatD list or IG, you pick—maybe even both a possibility.

Personal
Andy loaned me his season DVDs of Third Rock from the Sun. I’m having a good time with those. It’s been a lot of late nights at the studio so I don’t see as much of the family as I’d like.

We might be moving into a better studio soon, not much more than we’re paying now, but a LOT nicer.

Levels
I have long avoided doing <levels> of work. Blue Table does whole armies at what most services would call <level 2>. However, the reality is that we now have staff on board that can do work all over the place.

Level 1- Just the Basics
What you get: Just the basics (no eyes, decals, little detail work, 5-10 pics of the final work). The subsidiary studio that does this work is called Blue Griffon and there are pics up in the Completed Projects section of Blue Table’s gallery.
Price: Half the listed price for painting.

Level 2- Good Standard
What you get: What we normally do. Look on the website at Warhammer armies.
Price: the normal price listed.

Level 3- High End
What you get: Take a look at recent Confrontation work, that’s about right. Twice the effort and time is put into these figures.
Price: twice the price listed. For standard Confrontation work, it’s 1.5x the rate that would be charged for Warhammer models.

We haven’t brought home any Golden Daemons (yet) to be charging $100-200 a figure, so that’s the limit for now.

Would you like to work for Blue Table?
I’m constantly on the lookout for good talent. If you think you have something to contribute, make yourself known. Have you tried to start your own painting service, but found yourself bogged in the administrative stuff? I have a written application/interview that I will send on request.

Client Relations- position soon to be open
Blue Table is looking for a Client Relations person. While this is a PR-like positions there is a broader scope: sales, promotions, finances and customer service. This position will be open in the next two to four months. I will still be in communication with clients, but will focus on mentoring painters and working on large house projects (including populating the For Sale section of the website).
