(H):Lots of White Dwarfs (W):Opinons to keep or move

Post by jason1977 »

Looks like a trade add but its not. Just looking to find some opinons from people as what to do. I have almost 2 printer paper boxes worth of White Dwarfs. I also have 3x3 ring binders full of pages from WD as well. Heres what it looks like:

Image

I have full control over the basement so space is not an issue. I have a small pile that no matter what I do is staying. They are mostly issues about armies I play or some fluff stuff. Sadly the vast majority of them dont mean much to me. I could move them and perhaps get some money/models/bits in trade to further my collection. I could move them to get the cash for other things I need (2 month old). I could hold them and watch the dust collect.

Thoughts??

Thanks,

Jason

PS any PMs about trades will NOT be answered at this time. Again this is just a questionnaire.
In an act of kindness and respect, please respond to PMs one way or the other with in a timely manner.

A friend on mine has reduced space by cutting up the WDs he takes all the painting tutorials and award winner photos and puts them in a binder. He trims some good articles out as well into another binder. Most of the other stuff is just crap so it gets chucked.

Having been back collecting the White Dwarf for many years, I would encourage you to keep them.

I regularly look back through the history of the mag when I start a new army, tracing the evolution of the fluff and character of the models. There is also a "golden age" period whose modelling and painting articles are as relevant now as then.

There are, admittedly, some dry patches--WDs without scenarios or other productive articles, and if you were going to toss any, those would be the ones.

If you get rid of the old White Dwarfs how will you prove to your friends that it wasn't always a 100 page advertisement, and actually had content relative to the game?
If I forget to post a reference for you, please let me know!
If you are not going to post a reference for me, please explain why, maybe I can fix it!

If you are not actively enjoying them, I would say get rid of them. I am something of a packrat myself, and over the last couple of years I have started to declutter my collections and have found that it is really a relief to be rid of some stuff. Even if it is not taking up contested space in your abode, it is still there, staring at you...waiting to get moldy and stinky from a flood while causing your shelves to sag. Get rid of the albatross man!
Always remember that your stuff is nearly worthless junk. The other person's items are highly valuable collectibles.

If I owe you a reference, please remind me.

I don't expect people to wait forever for an answer, and expect the same courtesy.

I keep my White Dwarf magazines from issue 90-some to issue 160 or so in storage containers in my garage. Issues 160 to 240 or so are displayed on shelving in my garage. Remaining issues are on display in my hobby room, along with the issues that have the original Genestealer Cult, Ork Battlewagon (including templates to build it), and Confrontation rules. Nice to read the older magazines because of their fluff and so much more. I agree that White Dwarf today is more of an advertisement.

Not only that--templates to scratch-build the Baneblade, the theory behind modular table construction, various 4 Gamer series...hobby gold, man!

Don't get me wrong--there's some utter garbage in there too--sometimes for years at a time. But I regularly go back and find something I didn't care about 3 years ago that seems really coll now, as my hobby tastes have expanded.

Spartan, Saber...Paul Sawyer's White Scars...gold!
