Like most of the people watching the movies, I didn't read them. I shouldn't have to. If that's an important part of his background (to Lucas), then it should have been important enough to him that it should have made it into the movies. Otherwise, he's just...
I'm torn... Darth Jesus or Vader Christ?
LOL

Question: Were the books written before or after that movie trilogy? Frankly, if it was after, that could have just as easily been them saying, "Crap. People hated the Darth Jesus idea. Let's write something that explains it and makes it look like we weren't trying to go that route!"
Because, when the movie first came out, I saw and heard a LOT of complaints about that.

Amen to that, brother.

That should have been the case for the three newer ones. The only thing I didnt care for in the originals were the Ewoks. Three foot teddy bears using stone age technology beating Elite shock troops using advanced technology. My favorite was Empire Strikes back. Vader was sinister and you started seeing the conflict within him. I was born in 1974 so I grew up on Star Wars. I had all of the toys. The 80's were the best decade to grow up in. We had the best movies, toys and real arcades. Loved it.
Growing up in the 90's, I feel like I've got something to add, here. I was a kid when the new trilogy came out, and I still didn't buy that stuff- I didn't hate it, but I sure as hell was disappointed. It isn't about what perspective you're coming from: the first films were objectively better*. Lucas had less to lose and more to gain, so he was able/willing to do something with just a little edge, and then, when the second trilogy came along, there was no edge.

*and to you nay-sayers, yes, from experience, creative things still have objective merit (or lack thereof): you stick 10 people with real experience viewing, restoring, painting, and/or criticizing painting (example) in a room with fifty paintings, and I'd put money on them all agreeing on the 3 best, with subjective preference.

I agree. I think they tried to appeal to all age groups. Unlike the first three films which were geared towards older kids(teens) and adults. A lot of the aliens looked like cartoon characters and they used way to much CGI in the newer films. Yoda looked cartoonish. I liked the puppets and animatronics from the first three films. Jar Jar Binks and that entire aquatic race were horrible, they completely ruined the first movie. The battle Droids acted silly and showed fear in some capacity. The kid that played Anakin in the 2nd and 3rd films was just a plain bad actor. He was robotic.Padme was stupid, over indulged Royalty/Politician, but she sure could fight like she was a member of the Soviet Spetznaz. I know im complaining, Ill stop now.

If Disney makes Death Troopers into a movie, I would be a very happy fan.

I don't know what Death Troopers is, but, just sayin', that's a really stupid sounding name for a book/movie/whatever...

@spiralingcadaver, Death Troopers is a zombie Star Wars book. Sounds like a terrible idea, but it was well executed.

Zombie Stormtroopers? Dumb idea. Stick with the living troops, the can think for themselves and improvise, anyhow when was the last time messing with nature turned out well.

To all,

Unless you have read Death Troopers (or the prequel), do not knock it, or call it 'dumb'. Very well done books, and brings the modern fascination with zombies to the Star Wars universe.

Please read before nay-saying it.

I don't think it was great, but it was fun, and more importantly (as a one-off...which was then ruined by "explaining") it was a fun opportunity to mash-up Star Wars a bit.

It's goofy if you think of it as a "Star Wars" book, and more fun if you think of it as a Zombie book that happens in the Star Wars universe....
