I doubt a "new core game" is a boxed set. "Core games" are typicall systems (40K, WHFB and LoTR are all Core Games.Systems).
They could be looking to push the RPG or FFG's new talisman-based 40K board game?
If it IS, though, they're probably just collecting names so they have a list of people they can call/email to annoy when it comes out.
This is the first I've heard about a sign up sheet, though.

Wellllll...if you don't follow the rumor sites, it has been confirmed that Forge World is making Warhammer 30,000 to play Heresy era games. I don't know that GW would be putting out sign up sheets like that for FW though. That's probably just for the new starter box I'd guess.

I was at the flgs yesterday. They just sold their last copy of the 5th ed. box set.
When they called GW to place their weekly order, they were told they could not reorder it, since it's being replaced.
They weren't given a date or any idea of the product, just it was no longer available.

So apparently something will be previewed after the next white dwarf... (some clues in this white dwarf?) and maybe full feature in the one after that.

I will get some details if any next week.

I know that white dwarfs are planned out for more than 60 days, so This means that they have known since the rule book came out. Did I get lied to, or do the sales people really get kept in the dark?

That's a completely standard preorder form. It is for the new 40k core set (which in GW vernacular is called a "core game", just like the current IOB, BFBR, and LoTR boxes), which will be Chaos and Dark Angels. The guardsmen are simple decoration. That's it, that's all.
