Feedback Protocol

Post by Ogre44 »

I was just wondering what folk's views on waiting for feedback are.
I had a trade with someone with a MUCH higher feedback rating than mine.
He received his item and paid me via paypal, but didn't leave feedback, whereas I left him feedback as soon as he paid me.
Now my positive feedback or lack thereof isn't going to effect his rating much one way or the other, whereas my rating is low enough that any positive rating is a significant boost.
Is is bad form to PM someone and request their participation in the feedback process?
If not, how long should one wait to do so?
Just curious as to how more experienced traders handle such an issue.

I don't leave feedback until a trade is received on both ends, it leaves time to change my mind and make sure that all things are accounted for. I remind people if they haven't left me feedback after about a day.

It happens. To answer your question, I would wait 48 hours and then send a polite reminder PM asking for feedback for your deal. If that gets no response, send another after the next 48 hours have passed. The first one usually does the trick. I have yet to get past the second reminder. ;)

Good day,

I always wait until both sides have received their part before leaving a reference.

If I don't get a return reference then I wait 1 week then send a reminder - if nothing happens after the reminder I just write it off and do my very best to not trade with those folks again.

Thank you,

Lower Rating ships/pays first.

I wait about.. 3 days since I know they got my items, then send them a reminder. If they haven't within a week, I add them to my sig file, and let them know that I have.. most times people get moving before that point.

The people in my sig file right now, I still have PMs in my outbox, and one is from 2009...
2+2=5 for sufficiently large values of 2.

I use the Unofficial Porkuslime Trading Guidelines - if you have way less refs.. you ship first.

I started doing this years ago. I only leave ref's once we are both satisfied.

Don't be afraid to ask him. Just send him a reminder.

I'm in the same boat of waiting until both parties are all done. A person can be pleasant enough during trade negotiation, and then be a nightmare to work with if, say, something happens to the package and it's lost. Whether or not that sort of situation gets resolved amicably could affect the trade ref I would leave, and it would certainly earn an extra sentence in the comments.

Refs (to me) are as much about helping the community as they are about keeping a log of your trading experiences.

I wait until both parties state everything is good and the trade is complete, then leave feedback. I expect similar from others, and only 1 time do I recall not receiving feedback (and that person said they were leaving the site).

I have recently been forced to move to this policy:

If you have less refs than me, you'll need to leave a ref first, followed by my leaving a ref for you. If you have more refs than me, I expect that you'll leave one after I leave mine first. If you don't, I'll remind you within a few days and then again a few days later.

Regardless of refs, I now add the name to my sig so I can keep track of it. Maybe a little soup-nazi-ish, but I believe that the ref system works only if you use it and it's current .

If you get into my sig, I give it a month or so. After that - as gpfredette mentioned - I'll do my best not to trade with you again.

What really blows my mind is when someone is already online to answer your pm and then they state "I'll get your ref to you when I can."

Geez: you are online RIGHT NOW answering my pm - it takes 30 -40 more seconds!!!!!

Lower BT ratings ships first; paypal preferred. Reply to PMs, even with a "no thanks." I may lag, but I will reply!

Please try to leave a ref for each transaction. I always will. It tells myself and others what kind of trade partner I am!

Check out my signature, I'm sure I'm not the only one who forgets. Not to sound cocky or anything, but usually a lot of the higher level users have several trades going at once, so sometimes leaving feedback is forgotten or just slips through the crack. Don't be afraid to drop someone a PM, just be polite about it and you should be just fine- you would be in my book, anyway.
Do I owe you a trade ref? Remind me- sometimes I forget!

-I respond within 48 hours unless utterly incapable. Please do the same. Any offer I make stands for that long as well.
-Lower rating? You ship/pay first. Same goes for me.

'How Much for...?' messages will no longer be replied to at all. I've been nice about it, now I'm done.

I guess if neutrals no longer increase your ref score, then you could theoretically leave a good/negative ref and if they end up not leaving you one; then leave a neutral ref stating they did not leave you a ref. Just an idea.

Can't do that. Only one ref is allowed per transaction.

Oh really? Show me where that is stated.
Rule #11: ITL or Reference intimidation
ITL (AKA Reference) intimidation is a first-offense ban.

What qualifies as ITL intimidation?
In its most direct form, ITL intimidation is when someone says something like "If you give me a bad trader report, I'm gonna give you one."
Anything that is not so direct, like "If you don't give me a good trade report, you'll regret it" also may qualify. Note that giving someone retaliatory feedback qualifies as well. No free hits.
If you are not sure, please contact either myself or one of the moderators. The equivalent level of evidence required for filing a bad trade report is necessary: emails with headers, PMs, and so forth.

YOU ARE NOT REQUIRED TO LEAVE FEEDBACK. If you don't, you can't really complain when someone says "this guy's a jerk - he never left me any feedback!" Should you just forget and someone leaves you what you consider to be an unjust reference, please see the 30-day feedback appeal rule below. I would consider leaving an appropriate feedback for them in exchange for having your own feedback edited acceptable and not 'intimidation' per se. Everyone makes mistakes, and not everyone is abundantly patient.

Rule #14: NO ONE MAY GIVE THEMSELVES ANY ITL FEEDBACK WHATSOEVER.
The sole exception to this, as anyone who sees an Admin's feedback will note, is when we are testing the ITL recording and display system. Note that we are very specific about what the feedback is. Violation of this will result in immediate and permanent banning.
These are the only two rules I can find that talk about the ITL.

Regardless what is in the posted rules, that is and always has been the way it is here (this goes back to way before you migrated from staff on Morlock's site to staff here or even before I was staff here at all). Any time we (Admins) find more than one ref for a transaction, we delete any extras.
