I've always loved the Renegade Legion series of boardgames/miniatures games. I like the damage track system and how 1 lucky shot can right out ruin your day, but it has a low chance of really doing so. My favorites being both Centurion and Interceptor, followed by Leviathan.

As for straight up minis, I always liked Warzone. Even to the point of building a rubric when Ultimate Warzone was released so I could convert 40K models into it. By running all of the Warzone units back through it, it balanced out pretty well.

Rengade legion, centurion & interceptor were all by fASA.

Small known fact. The entire system was original for Star wars. then somewhere along the way, lucas changed his mind & pulled the licence.

SO with all the work done, but no fiction, they had to revamp the games. T.O.G., Terran Overlord Government, was a tongue in check name because after they lost the licence, it was called The Other Game amoung the devs & company.

Look at the tanks by the rebillion & then watch SW .. notice the hull shapes. familair? and senturion was released in the 1980'w. so who copied who? Lucas used the art even though he stopped Fasa from using the name. The races were similiar to what was 'known' in ep4-6. The Empire was still the empire but became romanesque. also look at the star fighters in ep's 1-3 then look at the ships in the recent star wars starship battles and compare them to the interceptor ships.

just another reqason I severely dislike lucas and ep's 1-2.
Heh, I was called a Grognard. ;-)

I'm going to go with Freebooters Fate right now. The game is fast and fun, with a unique card/bluffing combat mechanic. It tends to play best with 4-6 minis per side, and picking a scenario with character is key. Also, the minis are fun to paint.

I'll chip in with VOID 1.1

1. Fast ruleset, very few things get saving throws, and most are single wound.
2. It was simple to learn and get new players into (teachable.)
3. Standardized grunt/hero/tank attributes (no separate charts or rules for man/vehicle, everything has a chance to kill anything, no matter how slight it may be.)
4. Great quality sculpts by well-known industry sculptors (I'm a fan of clean, not-to-busy mini's, so that is a little biased.)
5. Forcebooks were a free download (and still are.)
6. Mini's were WAAAAAAAY cheaper than anything else out there, so players could collect and field platoon+ and company-sized forces for larger battles quicker than other systems.
None of these things are VITAL, this is a HOBBY. A hobby we enjoy, but still, a HOBBY.

Lower rating ships or pays 1st, myself included. Used to be more flexible; but was burned in recent months by a few newbies. If 200+ feedback w/no negs and 10+ years member is not enough to be trusted, well, like I said - none of this is VITAL.

Wow it's hard to name an absolute favorite. But if hard pressesd for a game that I could not live without I would have to go with the 3rd ed. Space Hulk.

Starship Troopers from Mongoose. Holy cow did I get deep into that game. I was still young(ish) and single, and had more money that common sense, so I bought and painted a ton of those models. I remember the look on the FLGS owners face when I ordered 27 boxes of LAMI troopers. First it was "uh-huh. Let's see the money" followed by "Egads! right away sir!". Oh Mongoose, how you let me down.

Second place goes to Mordheim. I haven't played a game yet, but I have a bunch of the mini's and love the idea of it.

WHF might make it to the top of my list, but I haven't assembled or painted any of my models yet, so I cannot try it out. Great models though, especially the FW stuff. Go Empire!
Always remember that your stuff is nearly worthless junk. The other person's items are highly valuable collectibles.

If I owe you a reference, please remind me.

I don't expect people to wait forever for an answer, and expect the same courtesy.
