Thanks. My wife's old andriod 1.x has died. I'm looking for a replacement for her for a birthday present.
She watched avi's alot. If it just supports pdf's or downloads, like kindle fire from cloud, it's not worth the cost.

If I remember correctly the Nook Color will play avi's but very badly. I briefly remember reading a forum post about that but I have never done it. But for still way cheaper than an android tablet you can buy a Nook Color and one of the Android SD Cards and turn it into a full Android tablet.
The benefit of that is:
1) Doesn't void the waranty because its not a "rooted" device you just pop the SD card out and its a normal Nook
2) Depending on how you do it (Purchased SD card or DIY SD Card) it can aks you when you turn it on do you want to boot into Nook or Android. My install to boot into the Nook OS i just pop the card out and its easy to get to.
3) Run all the Android Market apps. Even though the underlying OS of the Nook is Android you can't run all the Android market apps. You have to buy Apps from the store.

for the same price of a nook color, you can get a notebook that will do the job as well but on full XP...
it's not as convenient as a tablet but you can run army building sotwares on them... always found that the android softwares were not that stable...

You can import files you already own onto a Kindle, but you might need software to do so. I use a program called Calibre so I can convert files I already purchased into the Kindle format. Aside from that, you can also just drag and drop PDF files from your computer onto a Kindle and it will read the PDF fine.
Above is all IME.

I have a kindle fire and have all of my PDF files for GW and PP on it. You just have to send them/upload them to your kindle account - no directy transfer via PC or SDCard. there are plenty of free PDF apps as well, and everything works great. Kindle is cheaper too.

Re: Gamer Help Needed
The Kindle really isn't cheaper. The first Nook tablet that came out had 8GB more storage than the Kindle Fire and was $50 more at $249. Everyone was talking about how the Fire was cheaper so to combat that they released a 8GB Nook tablet for the same price as the Fire. So they basically lowered the amount of storage to equal the Fire and sold it for the same price. And for $30 cheaper than the Fire at $169 you can get the Nook Color which is basically the same as the Nook Tablet but the hardware is a little older.
Your choices come down to Kindle Fire for $199 or 3 choices of Nook at $169, $199, or $249. The Kindle Fire is a good device but the ability to transfer the pdfs by SD card and to expand the storage of your device at a whim with sd cards is why I went with the Nook.

With the Nook- would you have to 'Android" it to run that War Room app PP is going to be putting out in the next month or two? If it could handle the PDF's and run the card management stuff that would be pretty awesome
