USPS.com - no tracking of Parcel Post?
So I have an interesting problem. I mailed a bunch of packages yesterday with Delivery Confirmation and can track nearly all of them.
However, when I try to check the status of the Parcel Post package (coincidentally the most expensive and the one I want to track, the site says:
Delivery status information is not available for your item via this web site. A return receipt after mailing may be available through your local Post Office.
Is there no tracking via USPS.com for Parcel post now?
EDIT: $^%*&^@(* It! It appears the lady at the PO did not scan the tracking # in the system, as it's not on my receipt. However, she did stamp the DC# receipt slip. Would subsequent POs scan this or am I just SOL?

Trading Guidelines:
1. Lower rating ships first - even if I am purchasing.
2. If you agree to buy something, you have 72hrs. in which to pay. If payment is not received in 72hrs., I will automatically post a Non-Payment/Backout thread.
3. Refs are left upon positive receipt of goods, NEVER beforehand!
4. I accept Paypal & USPS money orders and charge for shipping AT COST. I make no profit from it.
5. I trade NIB/new models at retail.

Re: USPS.com - no tracking of Parcel Post?
Hmm. Good question.
I'll say "possibly," since there's no guarantee that even the ones that DO get scanned in the system will be scanned at points on their journey.
I look forward to getting a semi-official response from kturock, though.

Re: USPS.com - no tracking of Parcel Post?
Did you pay for d/c? If not, you're sol. it will show it on your receipt.
If you did, then you're not.
There's also the possiblity of it getting scanned in route. The new parcel sorting machines, when they work, scan all codes.
It SHOULD get scanned at delivery, thus the " D' in d/c. IF there's a d/c label on the package. Few people check to ensure the postage on the package matches the services on the item. [especially if it has the label put on at the postal window. It's a 1 of a kind label.]
D/C ISN'T a tracking system, it's to..confirm delivery. D/C means Delivery Confirmation.
You want it scanned everytime it's handled? You add Registered Mail or Express Mail service to the item.
Yup, she messed up. Just like going to a take out place and asking for an apple pie with your meal. You get home and it's not there. You didn't pay for it, so you're not out anything; just inconvienced.
ALWAYS check your receipts; everywhere. Make sure you get what you pay for, pay for what you get, and and get what you want.
If you did, then you're not.

Re: USPS.com - no tracking of Parcel Post?
In all fairness, kt, I'm not sure you answered the question.
Facts (it appears):
The label was put on the package.
The label was not scanned at the counter.
The DC was not paid for.
Questions:
*IF* the label is scanned mid journey, will it show up on the site with the DC#?
*IF* the label is scanned upon delivery, will it show up on the site with the DC#?
I think our unfamiliarity with the back end operations sows the seeds of these questions. We understand the basics and what you've given above. What we (I, at least) don't know is if the lack of scanning at the clerk's counter will keep any further scans from showing up in the system.
Thanks, man!
Eric

There's also the possiblity of it getting scanned in route. The new parcel sorting machines, when they work, scan all codes.
Also some items get randomly scanned when they arrive at the delivery office by the clerks who sort them to the carriers..
It SHOULD get scanned at delivery.
If it gets scanned, it will show up.
There is no way to know that it was paid for or not, unless someone puts it on a scale, sees it's short on postage. Then they'll send it forward postage due, OR back, returned for additional postage. IF it's in a container, like a flat rate box or envelope, that most clerks & carriers know the prices of, and see the d/c and realize, "Isn't that supposed to be more?"Then it might be put on a scale, as above.
The odds of that, are low. I just saw the stats on how many packages, letters et c. are expected to be handled and what days are the busiest. I don't recall the exact numbers but it's well over a million a day.

Thanks, kt.
So, the good news is that it may still get scanned in transit (and will get scanned upon delivery) and will show on the site when it does.
I appreciate your input.

Re: USPS.com - no tracking of Parcel Post?
Ancient did point out 1 thing that I've forgotten to post.
"Delivery status information is not available for your item via this web site. A return receipt after mailing may be available through your local Post Office."
IF you send something that has a number, especially if it requires a signature; Certified Mail, Insured, for example, and the the receipant says they didn't get it, you can file [and pay] for a receipt after mailing. The green post card's are Return Receipts'. These give you a COPY of the SIGNATURE of who received the item. [You MUST use these and Certified when you send to Official government agencies; IRS, INS, lawyers, judges, courts to prove they received them.]
There is also a service called Return Receipt for Merchandise, that REQUIRES the receiver to sign for the item and INCLUDES a Return Receipt. This is used when you return merchandise. [We used it. My wife ordered several pairs of shoes online. She changed her mind and sent them back, with insurance. The company said they never recevied them. Because they were insured for over $200, someone had to sign for them. The delivery office had a copy of the signature on file. I paid the fee and they gave me a copy of the signature with the name & date. We got the $200 back.]
D/C is great, but it doesn't require a signature, like certified does. YOU can add certified to any item going 1st class or Priority Mail.
