Want advise about outcome of trade and refs posted
I recently moved and wasnt expecting to have to (It was rough). I did my best to make good on all the trades I was in the middle of. I got everything out and correct except one, and thats what I would like to talk about (please only check my refs for who it is if you read the post and find it necessary. I do not have a way of keeping this 100% off the books no name meantioned).
I sold someone a dark eldar raider, 10 warriors, and 5 hellions for $66.00 shipped. I made a mistake in sending the hellions he instead wanted witches (someone else wanted the hellions, thanks goodness I had ten). We were working that out amicably and I was going to refund him $20.00 dollars.
Then he gets back to me red hot and tells me I didnt ship 5 of the warrior bodies aswell. They were all new in the box. I had removed all the models from their original boxes and shipped them with their boxes flattened so they would fit in a flat rate box. I was so sure I checked everything, and I literally just took them out and put everything that was in the boxes straight into the flat rate box. I didnt even challenge him and gave him the $20.00 back and suggested he call GW to get the missing models (which they would just send him 10 new guys). i asked him if I could do anything else, and if we were cool. I got no reply for weeks (one of which was when B Town was recently down).
So I send another message right when B. Town is back up and the message system is working. I know he read it because its no longer in my out box its in sent. So several more days go by, and then I get a neutral reference with untrue statements in it. He starts by saying I sent some wrong models (true), but then states the ones I did get right were all missing parts (not true, and as I stated everything was take directly form shrink wrapped boxes still on sprue and dumped straight into the shipping box. original boxes flattened and laid in with them). He even admits it was likely GW mistake, and then states "He did rectify his mistake by giving me a partial refund. He was nice and understandable and promptly dealt with it (true, I really try to make things right if I screw up)". But after that says "Either way, i wouldnt trade again with him just because of the hassle."
I honestly feel angry and disappointed. I dont know what else I could have done. Just never had anyone give me anything but a positive ref. I dont know what to give in a return reference. I dont want to be hasty or selfish.
What do you guys think I should do?

Re: Want advise about outcome of trade and refs posted
Sadly I feel that he has every right to make that post and statements. the only way I believe that he would not have been able to make the statement that models were incomplete would have been if you had left them shrink wrapped in the box. The simple fact that you removed them from the original packaging then, in my eyes, makes you responsible for making sure that the models were complete with all their parts on the sprue. This is in part due to the fact that we only have your word that you opened them and placed them directly into the flat rate box with no real way of proving it. Not saying that your being untruthful about it but with no evidence to back it up its a your word vs his on this. He could have given you negative responses on this but instead I think he did take the high road by giving neutral and simply stating his opinions on the trade.
Re: Want advise about outcome of trade and refs posted
I simply do not agree (although I understand many of your points). What proof do you have that I did or did not package them wrong (I openly admit to shipping the hellions instead of the Withches, but am I need proof like a movie of me packaging barter town trades to provide that "proof". That logically isnt even proof of anything as unless the movie is from packaging to dropping said package into the post office box there could always be doubt)? Your response is assuming he is being completely truth full without holding him to the standard your holding me to. He had no problem being up front with missing parts, and he made no mention of missing anything from the raider. Yet he has stated in his ref that "all the models" I did ship correctly were missing parts. Also giving me a negative reference after openly and being completely willing to:
1) Refund him and pay for return shipping
2) Refund him for the cost of the witches and letting him keep the hellions
3) Paying to have the hellions returned and shipping out the witches
I was never combative nor unwilling to do what was necessary to resolve this. I never was slow to respond. I did not ignore him. I was not rude. I simply did my best to fix my mistake and asked if I could do anything more. I got no response until the posted reference. Why would I deserve a negative reference?
I purchased models from someone else several weeks ago. They got beat up in shipping, and the pictures did not portray their actual condition very well. I asked for a refund and shipped them back. I was giving said refund, and I did not leave a neutral nor negative reference. The pictures were not good but that doesnt mean they were taken with the intent to fool me. He wasnt a bad trader, and neither am I.
EDITED because I was writing from the heart and didnt get my point across coherent enough.

Although I do appreciate you taking the time to voice your opinion. Lordboximus you just joined Barter Town this month, and do not have any trade references yet. I will wait to see what other traders who have had more experience feel about it.
If you bought a TV and when you got home it home it was missing the remote, and an accessory was for a different model. If you called the place you purchased the TV from and they gave you a 33% partial refunded no questions asked, and offered to send you the correct remote and accessory free of charge to you. Would you call that company "bad"? Honestly that what your saying.

Did you advertise them NIB? If you did that's the way they should have arrived.
Unfortunately I don't think there is anything you can do about it either way.If he feels like the trade was a neutral experience then he can give you a neutral.
If there are statements in his ref that are untrue PM a mod.

I do not dispute the neutral ref. Its his decision and I accept that. Im asking more on what I should do, and what you all think of how I handled it. He didnt really want to pay more than $6.00 for shipping so I had to take them out of their boxes to ship them (At the time it felt like if I had asked for more for shipping he would have said no. You guys know what I mean. You get a feel for how others respond and what that means for your own response. The trade felt "tight".). Im any case im actually pretty solid on just not posting a reference in reply at all. I dont want to make it seem that im either retaliating or being selfish (as another trader had warned me about, and im not one to ignore good advise). Just wanted to reach out and see what other seasoned traders thought of the incident. Sorry if I failed to get that across. I would like to say that if someone wants something NIB but negotiates me down on shipping; and I tell them that im using such and such box to send it/them at that price. I may or may not have to remove said NIB items from their original packaging to get them into the box "the buyer" decided on.

Doesn't matter. you asked for an opinion, and i gave one. I've been dealing with ebay for years, I completely understand how feedback works. FItterpete is correct, if he felt his experience was what it was he has every right to leave what feed back he feels. I don't see reason you have to give him anything other than positive because everything on his end was square, according to your original post. Anything other and it would come off a little petty and as if you were just trying to get back at him.Irish1983 wrote:Although I do appreciate you taking the time to voice your opinion. Now see this is where it gets skecthy. The first part where the wrong minis were sent and it was dealt with ok.if he felt his experience was what it was he has every right to leave what feed back he feels. I don't see reason you have to give him anything other than positive because everything on his end was square, according to your original post. Anything other and it would come off a little petty and as if you were just trying to get back at him.
But how do you really know the parts were missing from the sprues? Then he says it"s probably not your fault and leaves a neutral anyway?
Now for me this would ruin my trade experience with said trader and I would leave him a neutral also.

Lord Boximus I already said/agreed with some of what you posted. You need to know that your ebay experiences dont really mean anything here (im not trying to be mean or rude its just...they dont. Maybe on your first trade or two you could bring up your awesome feedback rating). Also you actually dont seem to understand how the "feedback" works. Its not like feedback, this is "real". You cant even give a buyer a negative on Ebay, and its no were near as personal as a trade can be. Ebay feedback and a B. Town trade reference are light and day. Its like I said I appreciate the input but your not an established member of this community yet (we all at one time weren't), and until you are anyone who has been around for years is going to take what you say with a pinch of salt (We simply have nothing to judge you by, and people come and go all the time).
@Fitterpete. Thanks for the input. After cooling down, reading PMs from others, and going over it again. I think my trade partner honestly handled the situation badly, and that I really tried to turn the situation into a good one. As I stated above in previous posts im just gonna not post any reference, and walk away knowing I tried. In the grand scheme this isnt a big deal. I just felt like talking about it (who doesn't every once in awhile really).

Re: Want advise about outcome of trade and refs posted
As I missed the thread when it was initially posted (pre-lock), I feel that I need to add something.
I would like to point out that the opinion of a new trader is as valid as that of an experienced one. New traders may not have the experience HERE that others do, but that should not discount 'real world" experiences.
If people wish to give their opinions less weight than others, that is their choice. We should not be dissuading them from taking part, however.
