How to estimate price of painted figs?

Post by StarmanTTLB »

I have a fully painted army that falls into the "tabletop quality" category. How do I estimate the value of the paint jobs on them?

I was thinking of just taking MSRP and adding 10%, but don't know if that's fair to both parties.

Thanks!

Thats a hard question to answer ,,,as there are some that hate painting and love playing, but others like myself that enjoy painting just as much,,,so say for me painted figs even ones done well have less value as Id have to strip them

From what I've seen on Bartertown, having figures painted is a reduction to resale value, regardless of the perceived quality of the paintjob. I'm sure there are exceptions, but they prove the rule.

Agree. You will find some people will pay more, and some will want to pay less. Why? Because your paint scheme may not match their Army's paint scheme, or they may not think your paint job is worth what you value it at. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Not everyone will agree on what is and is not worth more.
If your models are "tabletop" quality, they are likely not going to get more than retail. They are not likely going to get more than 75% of retail. Even that might be something you'll have to wait around for.

If you've got something I want and it's painted tabletop, I will pay 50% to 75% of retail, depending on what your definition of tabletop looks like. This, though, is only because -lately- I've been looking for models that have had the majority of the basics done, and I can just finish them off & call 'em "done."
Not everyone does that. Some will take your models, strip them, then repaint them.

I would suggest that you list them for "X" period of time and ask for best offers. If, in that time frame, you get an offer you like, accept it. If not, then just PM everyone who PMed you, tell them you went a "different way with it" and thank them for their offer.

FWIW, a buddy of mine just bought a REALLY NICE painted Necron army on feebay.
Monolith
9 Destroyers (or heavy destroyers)
40 warriors
Lord
Lord w/destroyer body.
Tomb Spider
9 bases of Scarabs
A few extra models

The price was $175.

...and POST said pictures.

It's annoying to have to wait for someone to send you pics.
Just P-Bucket them and post a link or post them right in the thread.
