Oh Joy - Discontinued models and another price increase!!!!

Re: Oh Joy - Discontinued models and another price increase!
My thing is gripe all you want, you will either pay the prices or not. Personally I still feel that I am getting my value at the new prices, so I will continue to pay them. Once I feel that I am no longer getting my value, I won't. Simple as that. I could care less about their reasons as it does not change the fact that the prices have gone up. Can't remember the economics term for it but as long as it is between that price I will pay and the price they will accept, I will continue to buy it.
Quite frankly I am happy with the direction the models are going both in quality and usability. Not having to work with metal, not having to pin another gosh darn mini is worth the extra 2 bucks. If you think about it how long does it take to pin a miniature? Now how much would you make per hour working? In that regard for myself it is saving me money. I know this argument is going to get torn apart but still something to think about. Now if you enjoy pinning that is something else. However I can't stand doing it and so this is a welcome change for me. Add on to that conversions just became much easier. For myself the gains that I am getting from the change to resin far outweigh the extra cost. I mean seriously a resin hive tyrant? Thank the maker(Woot dragon age rocks)
If you are going to quit, then quit simple as that. No need to gripe or complain. Unless the sole purpose is to complain(as I suspect many people use the internet for) in which case have at it.

Re: Oh Joy - Discontinued models and another price increase!
I don't mind the existence of GW's yearly price gouge...err raises so much, but what I do find unbearable is that simply because I live in Japan I have to pay nearly double what someone living in the US or UK has to pay for the EXACT SAME MODEL. And from May 31st I can no longer even import models from the UK thanks to GW's embargo clause in their new European zone terms and conditions for trade accounts. I know that most of the people on this board are from the US, but for those of us outside of the US and UK we aren't getting charged a few dollars extra, we're getting charged double.

I agree that the cost discrepencies between countries is pretty stupid. The exchange rates have been unbalanced for long enough that they should have made adjustments. Especially for the Australian price.

Here's a link that has a list of the price increases sorted by percentage:
http://theback40k.blogspot.com/2011/05/ ... .html#more
I don't think anyone is complaining about price adjustments on the plastic scenery kits--but 25%--particularly on relatively new kits like Grave Guard--is unacceptable.
And these sorts of brute force price increases don't account for GW's other, more subtle method--reboxing so that you pay more for less. Anyone remember 20 man Cadian boxes? The were released at, what, $35? how much is a 10 man box today...$24.75...so 20 would be $49.50...so a 40% increase. Yeah. And I think they might have been $32 when they came out, now that I think about it....

This is a very valid piont.leth wrote:My thing is gripe all you want, you will either pay the prices or not. Personally I still feel that I am getting my value at the new prices, so I will continue to pay them. Once I feel that I am no longer getting my value, I won't. Simple as that.
What I think you may not be seeing is that, for many of us, we've reached that point.
This newest price increase is my point of no return. More on that later.
I see nothing to argue with here. GW models are great looking (mostly) and getting better.leth wrote:Quite frankly I am happy with the direction the models are going both in quality and usability.
I don't like metal models, either. So, I welcomed the change to resin. Personally, I do enjoy pinning... but that's just me. : )leth wrote:Not having to work with metal, not having to pin another gosh darn mini is worth the extra 2 bucks.<<SNIP>> Now if you enjoy pinning that is something else. I think you're missing the crux of the complaints, or you're misunderstanding what GW's done.leth wrote:For myself the gains that I am getting from the change to resin far outweigh the extra cost.
The switch from metal to resin is not what prompted the company-wide cost increases. Resi isn't so expensive that all the plastic models and books (not *all*... but you get the idea) needed to increase to make up for it. GW based their increase (as they always do) on the lie of there being an increased cost to produce the products. The timing with resin may have been coincidental or purposeful, but is not directly related to the cost increase.
Why not vent about it? It's an open forum where we're allowed to share our opinions. Plus, venting helps get it off your chest. Surely, you can't tell me you never complain about anything. Heck, the message I quoted is a complaint about people who complain. LOLleth wrote:If you are going to quit, then quit simple as that. No need to gripe or complain. -I mean this without ANY venom-
If you don't want to read the complaints, do what I do. Either don't open the topic, or skim over the messages by those who are complaining.

I did say if the purpose is to complain have at it. Heck thats all I was doing with my post, complaining about people who complain just as long as you know that is the reason you are doing it.

One of the funny/sad things is that the BFG and Mordheim books were never updated. So if you buy the book, the same one that you can download online for free (and print out at a printing store for ten bucks) must be accompanied by the FAQ.

Sadly, this isn't true. Look at the list. They're going to $29 for ten.s_o_r_r_o_w wrote:Anyone remember 20 man Cadian boxes? And those do irritate me. It's not like the new VC skeletons, which are a completely different mold, far more detailed and have plenty more bits. I can see the switch going from $35 for twenty of the old ones versus $24 for ten of the new ones. But those IG manz are the exact same sprues, just with fewer in a box. And that is far and above compensating for any sort of cost increase. . .you can't even begin to argue it. Those are the increases that I can't understand.

Even that doesn't make sense. Yes, you do need tons of guardsmen for certain IG lists. But $29 for ten is a bit excessive. It'll discourage people from playing those builds, which will reduce your overall sales. However a Tactical Squad, perhaps the most popular kit (IMO, I have no solid data to back this up) has gone from $35 to $37.50 in the eight years I've been playing. Why not increase the cost on that? Even if they jacked it up to the $41.25 range, it wouldn't be cost-prohibitive to run a marine horde (how many can you really fit in 1750?), and you'd be raking in the dough off of those countless marine players.

You're attempting to apply logic to GW. That way madness lies!reegsk wrote:Even that doesn't make sense. Yes, you do need tons of guardsmen for certain IG lists. But $29 for ten is a bit excessive. If you think that's bad consider the US to Canadian prices. I've been saving heaps just by purchasing off US sellers. Ie $59..50 CAD for a hive tyrant, while it's $49.50 US for the same when the CAD is currently stronger than US. Basically their exchange rates are based off the 80s with fixed price increases across all currencies evenly.
Seriously so thankful for places like this and ebay. I picked up just over 2700 pts of nids here for about $425 when that would have cost me over $800 paying in CAD. Even getting a few boxes off ebay which are listed at 15% off USD retail plus shipping is a steal as it's often 30% off the CAD cost.
I think the finecast will be a huge blow to this place though. Other than NOS & NIB the other highest trade valued items are metal models since theyre easily stripped and reassembled. Now those will hold about the same value as plastics since you bear the risk of flash, broken & damaged parts, poorly assembled and thick paint with those expensive models.

Just got my White Dwarf today, and there are some pretty snazzy looking Finecast models in there. Maybe I drank the Kool Aid, but I kind of like the direction these guys are taking. A very good friend of mine has said... You are buying the hobby, not the model.
...and before I get flamed, also rmember this is my opinion and an opinion is worth exactly what you pay for it.
