First time problem for me re: shipping, duplicate tracking #

Post by norsehawk »

Ok, I've done a few trades [edit], my primary customer so far is located in Canada, and I am in the US. So I need to fill out customs forms to send packages to my trading partner. I sent out a package today, and the customs form has a tracking number, also the express mail tracking number is on a second sheet. That one seems to be working fine no problem, but the customs form number seems to be a duplicate number that was delivered to Japan a few days ago.

This has never come up for me before, and I'm not seeing anything in the forum here, nor on a quick google search. Has anyone come across this issue before? If so, does it mess up the proper delivery of the parcel to the intended destination? I really hope I am worrying over nothing.

Thank you in advance for any responses, and thank you for reading. I check the forums here but rarely post.

I would check your number again. Unless the wrong address was put on your parcel and it was delivered to Japan. I bought some minis off a store in the US and they shipped my minis to the UK and I had to wait for the parcel to "Return to sender" for about 3 months before I got my minis. They were very gracious and gave me some extras. So I really didnt mind. Customs numbers are usually quite secure, and they do not usually make mistakes with them as they are bar-coded.

USPS does reuse tracking numbers, so just keep checking. A phone call never hurts either.

Well the express mail tracking number worked and a note was left on my trading partner's door yesterday and the package is waiting for them at the post office. the customs number however was a duplicate somehow, and the package that had used that same number before was delivered to Japan a few days before I shipped the package.
