miniatures worth destroying?

Post by insan0 »

What do you do when you have some horribly sculpted miniature that no one wants?

I have thrown out my fair share of odds and ends over the years. About to hit the trash? Tau stealth suits 1st metal sculpt.

perhaps make statues out of them for terrain?
I will often check PM's and the forums on my cellphone, but it's difficult as hell to post/reply using it. So if you see I've seen your message, or you see me online, don't be concerned if I don't reply right then. I will reply once I get to on the computer. If it's urgent, let me know and I'll reply on the cellphone...but I'll frown the whole time. ;)

One man's trash is another man's treasure. I'd GIVE them away before I tossed anything.

They're not worth melting down and making bullets out of, too much mixed with the lead.

I was trying to start more of a discussion rather then post an add for them.
I suppose that as I have a small squad of them they aren't totally worthless but what If I only had one, or It was a damaged figure? Shipping costs would likely negate most of the "free" factor.
Space isn't really an issue for me but there are some items that I have been carrying around for along time. Maybe I've just caught one to many episodes of Hoarders. Do you guys hold onto everything waiting for that one trade ad/offer?

Donation wise I have given a lot of role playing books to the library as went through several different systems and phases. Yet donating miniatures has always seemed like more trouble then what it's worth.

I have a bunch of the single sculpt space marines. Tons of them, They sit in a box. Most are primed a little too heavy by the guy I traded with. They were kind of a throw in, so I wasn't upset, getting them. Would take a good stripping to make them passable. I have gotten rid of some before, to a newer gamer to get a starter army. 60 marines for $20 was to good of a deal for him to pass up. I still see them being fielded from time to time in larger games, fleshing out his ranks.

Holy hell, Norse, I never even thought of prepping them up for Apoc only. At last! A use for my 2nd ed box marines!!

I hoard everything with no intention of trading it. One day--one day--I'll paint some of it.

I think you've got a few options in this circumstance.

One is to toss it in your bitz box. One day you'll find a use for it or give it to a friend who sees it swimming in there.

Two is to use stray figs for scenic bases/terrain pieces. My miscast figs usually end up used this way. Maimed etc.

Three is to list the oddbitz you have in a trade ad and send them for the cost of shipping/whatever other deal you can make.

Four is to grab bag them at a buyer's risk and dump them all at once.

For me, I sort everything and it goes away against a future project. I need to take some pics for the pile of shame (it's not hoarding if it is neatly organized!).

That's a pretty little delusion you've got there...it can be a Very Neatly Organized and Meticulously Catalogued Pile of Shame.

I hope someday to achieve that.
