What would you do? (bad communication question)

Post by zeronyne »

Mods, if this isn't what this forum is for, please delete. Thank you!

I'm sort of bummed out right now, and I'd like to ask some advice.

I'm a fairly new Bartertown user, but I've had a successful trade, so I'm not pessimistic about all users. But I just don't understand this situation.

1. I posted an ad offering a bunch of Warmachine Protectorate miniatures.
2. Someone PMs me to tell me that they have some NIB 40k Chaos stuff to trade...but they are not sure of what they have exactly because they are in the middle of a move.
3. I respond by saying I would do the deal, but please let me know when the craziness of moving ends so I can be assured of simultaneous shipping.
4. A few days later a deal is made. We exchange addresses, and I ship my items and send my tracking number.
5. No response from the sender.
6. I check the tracking # a few days later, and the post office cannot deliver because the address doesn't exist. I had triple checked the address l from the PM.
7. I let the buyer know, and he immediately (within a few hours) responds that the zip code is wrong. He also admits he hasn't sent the items to me yet.
8. I then state that when the package gets back to me, I'd like him to ship first since it was his mistake and he hasn't even sent his part yet.
9. The next day, the post office DELIVERS the package! Who knew that mail carriers sometimes go the extra mile?
10. The buyer sends me a note saying that he received the package and that his roommate has sent his items to me. He gives me a tracking number.
11. The tracking number is missing a digit.
12. I've asked him once a day for three days to send me the correct tracking number. No response. He's logged into Btown at least once a day.

So apart from the lack of consideration on his part, how likely is it that I'm being scammed? I've carefully read the rules for bad trader reports, and I fully realize that there's a chance that a package will arrive this week and everything will be fine. But in reality, it's not a very cool thing at all to stop communicating like this. There's bad weather here in NW Indiana, and I'd like to know the progress of this package.

What do you think?

There isn't enough info to know whether or not you're being scammed. In order to know that, we'd have to know... well... if you're being scammed.
Honestly, though, we can't even guess. We don't know enough about the trader.
What's his trade rating?
What's his join date?
Has he read the messages you sent?

PM me his user ID. I'll send him a reminder PM for you to see how that goes.

There are a lot of things it *could* be.

As for the postman delivering... I expected that as I was reading your post. That's how they roll at the USPS.

Lower rating? You ship first.

I think what this situation needs is some imagination.

Want my help with a BTR or backout? All messages sent/posted should be in CHRONOLOGICAL order. Otherwise, I just won't read it.

I'd give him until Friday to come up with a the tracking number. Tho if he mailed when he said he did, the package should arrive by then (3 to 5 days coast-to-coast).

No package on Friday? Post a BTR first thing on Saturday.
