Good point.

I'm not convinced. I'm going to try emailing the UK and see if they can give me a definitive answer. If I'm going to put the time into converting these things I don't want to have to rip them off their bases later on. Especially since I'll have to do a lot of sculpting for the lower body/tail and some of that will probably be integrated into ground features on the base to increase stability.

Well, if you're going to mail the UK, would you ask them about the flat out/wrecked/explodes, disembark/exit vehicle question that was at the begining of this post?

Wraithguard SHOULD be on 40mm bases. They look so much better and are WAY more stable. I modeled my 30 of them on 40mm bases because I do think GW will be changing them next codex.

Grotesques:

Are the models for these scheduled for the 2011 release? I'm thinking that Dark Eldar bits + Chaos Spawn could yield passable grotesques, in a pinch.

Here is the answer to the nagging question that Joko12 posed in this thread.
joko12 wrote:One of my buddies has the codex crazy thing just happened in a game yesterday so wondering about this rule.

He has a dark raider that is full of a squad of wyches.

Dark Raiders can move 24 inches flat out.

So my buddy rams a rhino with his flat out movement rate, and auto pens his own armor.

It wrecks his dark raider, which turns into a vehicle destroyed because it is open topped (or a skimmer either way), then the models are placed not technically disembarked.

Are the wyches allowed to now assault in the assault phase?

Nothing actually says you can't because they did not disembark they were placed out of the vehicle because it blew up.

What happens in this case?
Posted today

Q: If a transport vehicle is destroyed in the same turn as it
moved flat out what happens to any embarked models? (p70)
A: They are removed as casualties.

Note the key word destroyed. This would cover both the destroyed - wrecked and destroyed - explodes results.
so Yay! our little group has been playing this right all along

Saying both are destroyed, makes sense.

If wreck caused them to be casualties, but explosion didn't, that was a problem.

I agree.

I mean, I've always been one that if RAW was clear, based on it's wording, go by it. If there's confusion, then RAI it.
IMO, the old RAW specifically referred to ONLY one destroyed result, so the answer was obvious. I didn't think it SHOULD have been that way... but it seemed clear.

I like this erratta'ed version better.

Urien Rakarth

4 units of wracks in raiders (or was it 5? Did the math in my head earlier today & can't remember, now).
3 units of (4) grotesques in raiders. Urien joins one group, Archon joins the other.
--As for the third? We hope against the rolling of a "1." LOL

That's just the basics. Everything that can has some upgrades, of course.

Dunno... 7 Dark Lances in a fast as heck army who ALL start with Feel no Pain (Urien and the unit with him will be FNP & Furious Charge). Plus, Urien has the d3 Pain Tokens to dish out.
Seems like it could be a WICKED army, provided you don't have the initiative stolen!

First free token goes to the Archon. If there are 2nd and 3rd tokens, they go to Wracks. LOL

Eric
I'd try using the Haemonculus instead of the Archon... You can get 3 for one HQ choice, leaving you with no grotesques that aren't being babysat.

I'm doing an army that's very similar in concept... A little different in execution, but basically lots of wracks and grotesques.

Yeah. The army has changed since then.
My initial build will be something like:
3x Ravager
2x Grotesques in Raiders
4x Wracks in Raiders
6x Haemonculi

Contemplating swapping out some of the D. Lances on the Raiders, to soften up units not in HtH. Not sure yet.

I want to leave as many dark lances as I can with some warriors in the backfield to try to clean up tanks and such. Granted, I haven't played much 40k lately, and the meta-game may have shifted away from lots of transports and tanks, but what the disintegrators can do, the wracks and grotesques can do just as well. Plus, I don't want to necessarily win combat the turn I charge in, Ideally, I want the enemy unit that I charge to last exactly one round, so that I can be locked up during the enemies' shooting phase.

I'm giving the talos and the cronos a try in this build... the ability to add pain tokens is huge, and they seem to be a little more resilient for their price in the new codex... ravagers are still only armor 11 open top... unless you're spamming a lot of raiders, it would be hard to keep them alive I think.

I'm doing another list with the standard raider/wytch/warrior/bike spam. That one will almost certainly have ravagers in it, but i want to try out a new build first, instead of just emulating my 4th/3rd edition DE army.

For my army above, leaving troops in the back field just will not work. There's definitely value to it in certain builds... just not this one. : )

As for the disintegrators... I'm not thinking about softening up units that I'm charging, so much.
I'm thinking that, if I can get 5 charges off on turn 1, but have 6 or more possible targets, massed disintegrators can eliminate/reduce one of those, leaving my opponent less to counter-charge me with on the next turn.
(Note: The above numbers are made up and insignificant, except to illustrate my thought process)

I agree, re: being locked up during shooting. The thing is, though... I tend to fight a LOT of MEQ and Ork Boy armies. I don't expect to wallop my opponent on the first turn of an assault... ever. LOL
