40k Ork Mek List

Post by joko12 »

So does anyone play a 40K ork mek list?

I have never seen one before and was thinking about starting one, but I don't want it to get stomped.

I was thinking somewhere along the lines of

2 Big Meks with Custom Force Fields,

Two Def Dreads with them.

2 Units of 3 Killa Kans

1 More Deff Dread to finish up the elites.

Then 3 looted wagons, all able to carry troops.

Not sure what the points come out to exactly, but I am looking for around an 1850 list.

I know I would need more in the army but that is the base of what I am thinking.

That looks like a good start. In my experience you dont necessarily need two KFFs. Might be better to use one with a Shock Attack Gun. Your basic list looks good. Now all you need is lots of troops. I always liked running shootaboys in my mek lists. Some Nobs wouldn't hurt either. Also use your looted wagons as trukks and take trukk boys. Unless I missed something Kans and Dreads are heavy support, so they should have filled up those slots. Good luck!

Yeah I was thinking that if I had two Mek's with custom FF then I could have my whole army protected for the most part.

But I do love the idea of the shock kannon its so funny.

Also not sure about the trukks I would almost rather just run giant units of 30 boys up the field then put them in trucks, they blow up so easy and when they do all the orks die inside of them.

Not sure yet just trying to get some idea's on some builds, but we will see.

Just looking for input from a bunch of people to see what the overall consensus might be.

I often run something like:
big mek with kff
big mek with sag

10 (or 2x5) lootas

2 dread with 4 ccw
3x20 boys with pk nob
10 grot

3 killa kan with rockit
6 killa kanz with grotzooka

pretty effective

p.s. A great place for orks would be http://www.the-waaagh.com

I've played a LOT of orks in different configurations, but I've never played an ork mek list.
If I was going to, however, this is the list I'd try.

HQ:
Big Mek
PK, E. Armor, Squig, B-Pole, Cybork, KFF
Hvy:
B-Wagon
2x Big Shoota, A. Plates, Deff Rolla, RPJ
Elite:
Burnas x 15
(The Mek & Burnas mount up in the Wagon & bring the pain to the enemy)

HQ:
Big Mek
Burna (for P-Weapon usage), B=Pole, KFF
Hvy:
B-Wagon
2x Big Shoota, Reinforced Ram, RPJ
Elite:
Lootas x 15
(Mount them up & rain fire on your enemies. A unit of Boys can be kept back in the KFF range, if you want them to sit on an objective)

Troops 3x:
11 Boys & Nob in a Trukk
Shoota/Slugga
PK & Bosspole on nob
Ram & RPJ on Trukk

Troop 2x:
Deff Dred
3 x CCW
1 x Kustom Mega Blasta

Hvy:
Killa Kan Squad (3 Kans)
1 @ Grotzooka, Armor Plates
1 @ Grotzooka, Armor Plates, Grot Rigger
1 @ Kustom Mega Blasta, Armor Plates
(3 differently equipped models in the unit)

Comes to 1846 points

Glad you like it. LMK how it works for you.

[edit]
Just remember to keep every unit within 6" of the KFF, if at all possible, as they advance. It'll increase the durability and, as a result, longevity, of your units.
You need to get in fast and hit hard.
Might even be a good idea to peel off a trukk or 2 ahead of the pack to draw fire, depending on the enemy and the situation.

This army would best work against an enemy that you can hit on one flank, then sweep towards the rest of his army. Divide and conquer.

Each Mek you take allows you to take a Deff Dred as a troop choice.
Off the top of my head, I don't know of any HQ that allows Killa Kans as troops.

Killa Kan Squad (3 Kans)
1 @ Grotzooka, Armor Plates
1 @ Grotzooka, Armor Plates, Grot Rigger
1 @ Kustom Mega Blasta, Armor Plates
(3 differently equipped models in the unit)
No need to take Armor plates on a squadron of Killa Kanz. The squadron rules already makes stunned results downgrade to shaken. Only usefull when you have only one killa kan left.

I'm pretty sure equipping all 3 differently does not give you any bonus for assignation since they are a squadron and you must assign glancing and penetrating hits on individual models before the roll on the damage table. Considering this you grot rigger is also of no use since an immobilized Killa Kan in a squadron is automatically destroyed, but i'm pretty sure you took it only to differentiate all 3.

And no there is no HQ that allows Killa Kan as troops.

LOL
Like I said... I've never played a list like this one.

Thinking about it, you're right about the squadron rules. Just had that happen last weekend, in fact. I should've remembered it.
I don't play squadrons enough to know that you don't assign pens/glances like wounds, though.

So, yeah... You can drop the Armor plates on all 3 & the grot on one. With the saved points and the previous 4 extra points, you can get yourself some upgrades (maybe some big shootas in the Boys units or Armor on Nobs).

One Mek = One Dred.

The codex states:
"Da Big Mek: A Big Mek allows one Deff Dred to be taken as a Troops choice."
It doesn't give any sort of a limitation.

You misunderstood. I knew it was one of the other. Couldn't remember if the Big Mek let you take Killa Kans or Deff Dreads.
