Eldar- a good army list? Advice?

Post by starslayer »

Im thinking about getting back into 40K. Ive had Eldar in the past, but Im sure rules have changed greatly. Any help on a solid Eldar list? Any advice?

Thanks!

Farseer with warlock council

2 units of 5 wraithguard and 1 warlock in wave serpents

1 units of 10 harliquins in wave serpent

2 units of 5 rangers upgraded to pathfinders

3 wraith lords.

So the idea is get up fast drop the wraith guard and blow up whatever you can with the wraith lords.

Keep the farseer and warlock council back with the wraithlords to keep them all safe.

I have played it before it is a very tough army to beat. Fun to play too.

I have a friend here locally who plays Eldar in a sort of "Flying Circus" style. After a bit it makes you (the non-Eldar player) want to table flip, since they're zooming all over the place. Here's the list he used for 'Ard Boyz. He typically uses some variant of this list in normal games. Though not with so many Fire Dragons.

'Ard Boyz
------------------------------------
Yriel
-------->Total of these two SCs is 365, done for copyright reasons, whatevs.
Eldrad
+10 Warlocks, 2x Embolden, 2x Enhance 290
+Wave Serpent 125
...+TL-Cannon, Spirit Stones, Star Engines
------------------------------------
7 Dragons 222
+Wave Serpent
...+TL-Cannon, Stones

7 Dragons 222
+Wave Serpent
...+TL-Cannon, Stones

7 Dragons 222
+Wave Serpent
...+TL-Cannon, Stones
------------------------------------
11 Stormies 135
+2x FLamer, Warlock w/ Destructor
+Wave Serpent 110
...+TL-Cannon, Stones

6 Bikes 205
+ 2x Cannon, Warlock w/ Embolden, Spear

6 Dire Avengers 99
+Exarch w/ power weap and shimmer shield
------------------------------------
Falcon 185
+Holo-Field, Star Cannon, SS

Fire Prism 160
+HF, SS

Fire Prism 160
+HF, SS
------------------------------------
Total: 2500
------------------------------------

And here's a quote from another friend on the Eldar, which in my opinion is fairly accurate.
"Fighting Eldar is like trying to hold onto a fish... Except the fish is holding a brick... And every time you're not expecting it, it slaps you with it. Enter the Eldar. "

Not a legal list as you only have one troops choice.

:?: 2 Units of 5 Rangers, do they not count as 2 Troop choices? Tough to beat, but only 1/3 of the time. Hard to take objectives with 2 units of 5 Pathfinders.

Hmm...missed the 2 in front of that before.

Agree with on the objective taking, and I must say I'm not as fearful of a walking Farseer and Warlock Council. On jetbikes? Sure. Walking, not so much.

A LONnnngggg time ago I had great success with a list like this. (basic fro memory)

Avatar
3 units of Scorpions
5 small units of Guardians with weapon platforms
3 units of Hawks
2-3 units of War walkers

------
Avatar & Scorpions blocked enemy attackers( Unbreakable(??) w/Avatar or something)
Guardians hit Transports or tanks (star & brights)
Warwalkers churned out firepower (star, bright, scatter)
Hawks got objectives or hit light troops (like Guard troops)

It is hard to hold objectives with that list, but if you kill everything on the table then you win.

And yes Farseer on ground is not to much of a worry, but if you keep him and the warlocks in good cover they get the job done without dying as well.

Like I said I have seen it win many times, just try playing it and see how it goes.

I dont even remember what edition it was. Hawks would drop bombs & try to hold, Scorpions & Avatar would try to help. It churned out alot of firepower though. Im sure things have changed. There were no Min-Exarchs ( whatever you call them.) then. Id like to try them out. Any good combos?

Good list, but I'd run the wraithguard as 10 strong to count them as scoring, and then you can run the seer council in the remaining wave serpent.
Always ship with delivery confirmation, I do the same.

Rating of less than 100 (or with no known traders)? You ship first (for trades and purchases), otherwise, we can ship simultaneously.

YOU must ship your package; not your wife, friend, lover, cousin, or dog. If you are not able to ship packages yourself, then please don't work out a deal with me.

Couldn't wraithguard be used to screen the Wraithlords? Giving the Wraithlords a cover save?

Hawks drop bombs (large blast), have an assault 2 weapon and have both plasma and haywire grenades. Their exarch powers allow them to leap out of combat and into the sky to deep strike again on another turn. Just as before, the eldar pack a hell of a punch. With their specilizations, they can be a great and fun army to play.
On a personal level, I would say that they are more of a strategic army then a tactical army.
