Value - Older Dwarf Models
I am considering purchasing a large Dwarf lot.
It consists entirely of pewter models circa 91.
I am usually pretty good with values, however this one has me a little confused.
Taking into consideration:
current dwarf line is pretty badly sculpted. (Increase value of previous nice sculpts)
Alot of BfSP around (devalues entire army)
All pewter (some would value higher some less) (I am of the mindset higher)
OOP Some hard to find models (collectors would value higher)
OOP (some do not like older models)
My thinking is that this army is worth substantially more than a current army, to a few people(collectors), but is worth slightly less too a majority of gamers. I count myself in the minority, valuing it more that a current army.
My question is..Do you agree with my assessment? Or do you think that more people would value this higher, or am I completely wrong and this is pretty worthless to all but a very few.
I know this is a weird question but would appreciate some feedback from some of the collectors that are trolling about the board.

Re: Value - Older Dwarf Models
To me it would depend largely on how much of an army this makes up. If I got this lot, but it only was like half of what I needed to field the army I was looking to make, then I'd value it fairly low. I mean, that would force me to go hunt down lots of other old, OOP Dwarf minis. If it's a full army in one shot I'd probably feel a lot better about giving a higher price. Or, if it wasn't a full army, at least big enough units where I wouldn't need to mix in newer minis if I wasn't inclined to go on a treasure hunt to find more of the models needed to finish off the unit.

I think your assessment is pretty fair with the exception that it's still only valuable to a few people. Does that make sense?Norseman wrote:I am considering purchasing a large Dwarf lot.

Yes Imp that make sense.
as for HZs concerns...
This army is complete. I wouldn't need to add anything. It is huge.

The one point I would disagree with is the quality of the models. The latest run of dwarf plastics and metals is better than ever before, with more detail and fewer blemishes. I do like the look of some of the older models, but I don't see that as something that would increase its value.
Outside of that, I would agree, especially if it's a full army.

Dwarfs are a funny thing.
There are some SERIOUS dwarf collectors out there, and the depth and range of the older dwarf sculpts can add considerable value to the range.
Do you have some catalog pages you can point to that have some of the figs present?

I am always in the market for weird and wonderful GW oddbitz and ephemera. PM me if you have something old/weird/rare.

New metals? Maybe for the character, lords and heroes; but not any for the troops. The new plastics suck IMO. I actually prefer the previous edition plastics.reegsk wrote:The one point I would disagree with is the quality of the models. I'd go for a higher price if it was a complete collection, but luckily for me my Dwarf Army is pretty much complete; composed mostly of metal models.

Re: Value - Older Dwarf Models
I have seen the old dwarf models go for a ton of money on ebay.
Generally is smaller units, so if you are looking to sell them, I would sell them in smaller lots based on units.
But if you are trying to sell it as one large army you would have to find someone that only needed those specific units.
Most people that collect those models already have some of them, so they wouldn't need anything, thats why breaking them down generally increases the value of the models.
But personally I love the old metal models so I think you right on the money.

The problem is, the few people that value it more, probably already have the models that they want... If you broke it up, and sold it individually, you might get a little more, but as an army, I'd say that you would end up getting considerably less than you would for current models.

Re: Value - Older Dwarf Models
I was thinking with the increase of larger units people may be looking to increase thier unit sizes. Hence moe demand for the next year or so for OOP models.
