Again, what are your goals? To enjoy friendly games, or winning at all costs?

I think you're both wrong and right. If you are looking at WoC from the perspective of someone who likes to play a balanced or fluffy list that truly revolves around a core of WoC then BoLS would seem to be on drugs. The problem is, BoLS has never pretended to be about balance. The website promotes so much cheese I really expect to see a dairy farmers endorsement logo everytime I open the site. See, what I *think* that author is talking about is solely how good marauders are for their points in the new edition. That goober is likely considering how broken it would be fielding monstrous hordes of marauders with hounds running flank support. See marauders were good before, but because they're just sooo cheap with stat lines that are better than their points suggest they really make out with the horde rules.Asif Chaudhry wrote:
As far as Bell of Lost Souls - I think they are sniffing the crack a little too much now a days, with listing Warriors of Chaos as a "top" army now.
Now - I haven't seen the rules yet myself, but from what I understand:
In previous eds, armies that had superior close combat ability would try to maximize their win ability, and minimize the "Yatzhee-factor", by getting the charge, attacking first, and killing a lot of the opposing models, reducing the return blows of the opposing unit by as much as possible.
In 8th ed, models that are stepping up to fill in for fallen troops get to fight now - so the opposing unit rolls more dice, giving them more chances to roll 6's, forcing the elite unit into taking more chances to roll 1's for armor saves, skewing combat results massively in favor of the horde armies that have lots of bodies (and thus, lots of attacks).
Throw in the "Steadfast" rule for large formations, and I would say that the Warriors are in trouble. But that's just my uneducated opinion - I haven't seen the rules or played any games with them yet. So take that for what it's worth.

Huh - I'm not that familiar with BoLS, so I didn't know they were a bunch of Gueda-monsters. I SUPPOSE, if you had a collection of 300 marauders, that running a horde army of chaos, with a couple of tactical nukes (lords on dragons) might be a tough out for some opponents. I've honestly never tried to build something like that because a.) it's seems beardy as all hell and b.) I don't own close to enough Marauders to pull it off.HarlequinZero wrote: I think you're both wrong and right. Oh, and I kind of skipped the OPs question. Unlike 40K with Space Marines, there is no marquee army that is easier to get into. Right now I would suggest either High Elves or Skaven as you'll be able to throw armies together on the cheap with the new box sets coming out. Especially High Elves because they are an elite army and don't need so many figures. Two sets of High Elves from the new boxed game should make for a pretty good army at a bargain price.

Check out their respective WHFB fan sites. Ulthuan & Bugmans Brewery. They are two VERY different armies.
