Bretonnians

Post by pippin_nl »

Someone is offering me some painted questing knights, painted to a very high level. What do you think is a reasonable price per knight (if you answer this please indicate a price excluding the model itself)?

I'd pay around $20 / model for those. They are very well done.

Damn those are nice! I'd pay 20-25 per model, easily. Maybe more.

As a painter, I'd probably charge double that to paint them at that level.

yes, but that would be for a direct commission.

I think that $20 a model is probably more than they would fetch on ebay, but a fair price nonetheless.
Always ship with delivery confirmation, I do the same.

Rating of less than 100 (or with no known traders)? You ship first (for trades and purchases), otherwise, we can ship simultaneously.

YOU must ship your package; not your wife, friend, lover, cousin, or dog. If you are not able to ship packages yourself, then please don't work out a deal with me.

Those models?
No way.

If someone with the right reputation listed those, they'd go for double that AT LEAST. For a commission, I'm easily seeing around triple that.

Seriously. I'm used to seeing minis of this level on a weekly basis. Fifty or sixty USD each, just for painting, is NOT unusual.

Lower rating? You ship first.

I don't play Fantasy, but those are really nice. I would pay at least triple retail for them..
2+2=5 for sufficiently large values of 2.

I use the Unofficial Porkuslime Trading Guidelines - if you have way less refs.. you ship first.

Exactly Eric! When I did used to use them, I did most of my feebay auctions for this quality of a paint job, and they often easily cleared the $50.00 per model mark many times higher. This is common for display quality or "WAY Beyond Table Top" particularly if there is clear and well done freehand work or superbly done NMM (non-metallic metal) techniques. As Eric said, depending on the reputation of the painter, the price goes up from there. That being said, to the OP, is the offering entity the painter or just someone who had them painted? There's your rub right there. The painter is going to have a higher personal value of the knights than say someone who had them painted by someone else. Unfortunately, well painted items don't hold as much value around here (no offense everyone) especially when not coming from the original painter, and especially if the painter doesn't have an established reputation as a professional or semi-professional.

If you are getting these from the original painter, I would expect that unless he/she is hard strapped for cash they are going to have a price of at least $35.00 per model in mind. If this is a trade, you can probably expect them to consider their value a bit higher and will be trading heavily in their favor. At least that's the way I would approach it.

If however, you are dealing with someone who had them painted or bought them off of feebay, then deal frugally, absolutely. Offer the $20.00 per model and see if they bite, this is bartertown after all, haggle, haggle, haggle. What's the worst they can say really? "No!"

Just my $0.02.
