Round Three:Assaulting from deep striking vehicles
All of the DSing Raiders and the StormRaven explicity state a unit CANNOT assault if the vehicle deep struck that turn. BUT...
Can I deepstrike with a Storm and assault out of it? Moved at cruising, open topped, no stipulation that disembarking units cannot assault (like drop pods or the new BA stuff).
Thoughts?

I would say no. Units that arrive via deep striking cannot assault.

Re: Round Three:Assaulting from deep striking vehicles
well it states on pg 95 of the MRB that "in that turn's assault phase these units may not assault unless clearly stated in their special rules that they can."
IE a Vanguards special rule states that if equiped with jetpacks and they perform a deep strike they can assault that turn. Thus they have an exception to the rule.
While an open top vehicle can technically "usually" assault from a vehicle that is not going fast, the deep strick USR specifically states that you cannot assault after a deep strike unless it is clearly stated in the units SPECIAL rules.
Open top merely gives you the ability to assault from the vehicle, however the DS special rule overrides that rule in those specific circumstances. Special rules trump standard rules and Codex rules trump special and standard.

Re: Round Three:Assaulting from deep striking vehicles
I am in 100% agreement with MRRSHANN on this one.
That being said -and, granted, I have not consulted my rule book- I can foresee some... individuals... trying to mix words. Since it was the VEHICLE that performed the "deep strike" and not the unit in it, the unit within can still assault (from Land Raiders or Open Topped Vehicles). I'm certain that, although the spirit should be obvious, there's probably enough ambiguity in the wording to allow both sides to have a merry old time arguing the specifics of the rules.

No. If a vehicle deep strikes in, the unit that rode it down may not assault unless the rules specifically say they can. So you cannot assault out of a Land Speeder Storm, a Dark Eldar Raider, or any other deep striking vehicle.

Can you tell me what page(s) that would be on in the BGB?
Thanks.

Re: Round Three:Assaulting from deep striking vehicles
I can't give a page number, but there is a line that states something to the effect of "embarked units are coexisting with their transport" or somesuch. So both the vehicle AND the embarked unit are considered to have deepstruck that turn.

Re: Round Three:Assaulting from deep striking vehicles
Page number was already referenced, page 95, along with a quote........................
Key is to note that both the vehicle and the embarked unit are considered to be deep striking, not just the vehicle.

Re: Round Three:Assaulting from deep striking vehicles
Here's a twist:
Blood Angel Land Raiders may enter via deep strike. A unit is embarked. LR rules specifically says that a unit that disembarks may assault that turn. Can they do it? Do the LR special rules override the deep strike special rules and allow the unit to assault?

Good Day,
PG 37 (Land Raider) of the BA Codex says:
Deep Strike: A unit that Deep Strikes via a Land Raider cannot assault the turn it arrives.
The Storm Raven entry says something similar under it's assault vehicle rule.
Thank you,

Ist that something gw will not make until they have a cruddy quater? LolDakkar98 wrote:What's a Storm Raven?gpfredette wrote:The Storm Raven entry says something similar under it's assault vehicle rule.(there isn't a smilie for rapt attention)
Personaly I have always read the rule above (in who ever had The page number) to mean that if any special unit had q rule to assualt via deepstrike then those units would be aloud to only.... So if a unit didn't have the rule then no it can't.
But it's gw so ???????????????????????

It is a AV equivalent to Predator tanks, carries the same amount of troops as a basic Drop Pod, AND a Dread... I think it sports one or two TL assault cannons as well, maybe flamestorms. Costs about the same as a Land Raider, but is a fast flyer..

Re: Round Three:Assaulting from deep striking vehicles
The Stormraven is a 12/12/12 Fast Skimmer that can hold 12 models (including models with jump packs, but they count as 2) AND a dreadnought. It’s also an Assault vehicle. It comes with a TL Asscan and TL Heavy Bolter. The HB can be swapped for a Multi-melta and something else (heavy flamer?), and the Asscan can be switched for a TL Plascannon or TL Lascannon. AND it can take hurricane bolter sponsons. AND it’s immune to the bonus melta die. AND it can enter via Deep Strike. AND it has access hatches (front/sides/rear). All for 200 points before upgrades.
It does specifically state that units embarked in Land Raiders and Stormravens cannot assault the turn the vehicle deep strikes. It doesn’t specifically state that with the Land Speeder Storm, and it’s Open Topped, so I can see it as a viable question. But doesn’t it state somewhere in the rules that a vehicle which enters via Deep Strike counts as moving Flat Out, and therefore the units wouldn’t be able to disembark at all?

Re: Round Three:Assaulting from deep striking vehicles
Oh, and here’s a fun little question. In the Blood Angels codex, Sanguinary Guard and Assault Squads both have the Descent of Angels special rule. Units with DoA may re-roll failed Reserve rolls when entering via Deep Strike, and only scatter 1d6” when they do. So if you take the jump packs off of an assault squad and give them a Land Raider, or place either unit in a Stormraven, does the DoA rule apply to the transport?
Ordinarily I’d say no, but if a unit with Scout or Infiltrate has a dedicated transport, they are allowed to Outflank in the transport, so that would be a precedent of a unit’s special rule applying to their dedicated transport.
