Canis Wolborn's Unit type is listed as: Cavalry.
He is riding a Thunder Wolf.
He is the only example thusfar of cavalry monted on a thunderwolf, therefore his base size should be used as the basis for any Thunderwolf Cavalry models that someone converts for the game.
Technically, until an actual model is released an opponet could say that unless the entire Unit is converted from multiple Canis Wolfborn models that is does not count. Most opponents would allow them to convert from plastics wolves or what have you, as long as the base size is consistent with current example models.

According the the GW rulebook if you put a model on a different base size than what it is supposed to be on you have to have your opponent's approval if your opponent doesn't approve it you can us it on that size base.

this is exactly my argument

I do not mind if they are based on a base which has different side lengths as long as the total area of the base takes up the same area on the board, for blasts and spray weapons its the reason, to an extent.

i also do not expect any player to buy multiple canis wolfborn models and do expect people top make them out of smaller plastic wolfs (even if this makes them smaller for all LOS purposes which is also illegal).

Also if anyone has problems with the whole base size thing, GW never actually released a 40k chariot of khorne so u could put a blood crusher and little ridding thingy onto a small base and hide them or even not use a bloodcrusher and put like a little hound and do the same thing.

you could also put a warlock seer council or a nob bike squad on small bases and also have them be represented by snowboarding locks or nobs or something really small in comparison to what people expect to see when they play against those armies, all because they never actually released models to represent the rules.

So far i have just said forget it as this is one of the things that makes me not want to run any events for 40k at this store.

Oh and i had asked this guy again why he decided to switch the bases and he had said because it was "better for his army to be smaller".

Ironhide wrote:Canis Wolfborn is a special character that rides a Thunderwolf. Not a Thunderwolf Cavalry model. There is no Thunderwolf Cavalry model, so there is no base size for it. After reading several threads on this (from different sites), I say base size is dependent on your gaming group or tournament organizer.
please point out ANY SPECIAL CHARACTER in 40k that is mounted on a different base then any models of like type in their army. GW does not release models with special base sizes for like models even if they are special characters.

And look at the stats for a second, they are all the same for both canis as well as for twolves (toughnes, strength) can u please tell me why this would be as a bike doesnt even give a regular 5 for toughness?

Skulltaker is bloodletter special character mounted on a 40mm base, yet bloodletters come on 25mm bases.

Really? I always thought that sence bloodletters were on a 25mm sq bases in fantasy and skulltaker in on the same In that system I figured that they still were on the same in 40k...

Oh and I guess I missed the special khorne puppy also as he has a med base instead of a cav base right? He's bigger and on a bigger base right?...

But again what kind of game does not release models that they have rules for and has more of guidlines then rules for governing what size bases models need to have? The amount of loop holes that 40k should make the designers blush if nothing else.

Which is why I think GW should put in the codexes, exactly what base to put models on. Ease the confusion when people want to scratchbuild their own model, instead of having to wait for GW to produce one.

I would think that Thunderwolf Cav would go on the fantasy cav bases, or the new biker bases with the rounded ends. This reasoning is twofold. First off, the only other cavalry models in the game, Rough Riders, are mounted on the fantasy cav bases. Secondly, the thunderwolf cav stat line is not that different from any other biker unit. I don't see why they should have to be mounted on large bases. Canis Wolfborn is a special character. Yes, he is mounted on a thunderwolf, but his wolf is probably larger than the wolves that other people are going to use. Any non-special character model in the game with a similar statline and similar rules to thunderwolf cav are all mounted on the cavalry bases.

ravenors are med base cav (beast) models, beast of nurgle are slow cav (beast) units, chaos spawn are cav (beast models) are not on cav bases. Cav and beasts in 40k are the same things in 40k as they use all the same rules.

Oh and toughness 5 and strength 5 not toughness 4(5) and streingth 4(5) when u have 2 wounds and A thunder hammer with 5 attacks isn't exactly the same as a bike Sargent with 1wound and 2 attacks.
