Most of what I'd have said has been covered. I'll try to stick with original content only. LOL

First: Jim (Porkuslime) invited you to a game. If you get the chance, take him up on it. Jim's a good guy and a GREAT example of what Bartertown's all about. Plus, look at that rating (in parentheses by his User ID). If ANYONE can be trusted to give you good trade advice, it's the guy with the highest rating on the site!

Second... LOVED that ad. Wonderfully formatted.
Don't worry. You'll grow out of it eventually. LOL

Ebay ref's... While Bartertown ref's are "currency of the realm" around here, SOME few people do accept them in one way, shape or form. Feel free to puta link to them in your sig line. Can't hurt. Right?

As you poke around, you'll notice 5 different User ID colors.

Red is Admin. Highest rank on site. While no "official" ranking system exists within the Admin, fact is that TrademasterAdam is the (mostly absent) site owner. Linrandir is the de facto main man. Aside from Adam, he's the longest standing Administrator. The rest of us are just kind of jumbled below him with no rank.

Dark Green is Moderator. Mods are next down the line.

Light Green is Watchman. Third Tier of Bartertown Staff.

Dark/Bright Blue User ID's are Advertisers. These are the people whose money goes to keep this site free for your use. We ALWAYS sugget that you buy with them (or your local game store, of course) before giving your money to other online retailers. For the most part, you can get as good a deal with them as anywhere else.
Some are painters, resin casters, retail locations. We have it all, pretty much.

Light Blue (like yours) represents regular members.

Also, remember that trades are king here. You're looking for $ to get the rulebook and codex. You might not be able to get the cash, but you might be able to find someone willing to trade some of your stuff for what you're looking for.

Remember that you can NOT ask enough questions about the stuff you'll be getting. Asking for images is NOT "going too far." Although BTown rules state that you should be upfront in describing your stuff, not everyone is.

If you find yourself with a general problem/question, feel free to post it in this forum. If you want to ask a staff member, feel free to PM any one of us. A good rule of thumb is to look at the very bottom of the front page. There's a list of all users online within the last 60 minutes. PM one of the staff members whose ID is in that list. Chances are the they're still online.

Hope this all helps!

Eric,

Thanks...That was very helpful.

I have a deal pending for these items. I want to thank everyone who gave me input and made my first experience here at Bartertown go so well!

Is it PENDING or is it a done deal?
I ask because I saw your ad in the 40K forum. If it's just pending, I would suggest leaving your ad as-is, until you hava a confirmation.
Also, FWIW, we don't delete trade ads. It'll sit there until it phases off the site. So, you can edit your totle to "Sold" or something, but a delete request won't be done.
In fact, I advise NOT to ever alter the content of a trade ad, except to mark something pending, sold, etc., except the title. If you ever need to link back to it or copy it for a BTR or communications, it'll be nice (for you) to have the original available to you.

I spoke with the buyer on the phone. It is pending, because I have to go get it from the Hobby Store tomorrow and make suere it didn't sell. Once confirmed, I will ship it to the buyer who has a boatload of references and once I received payment I will mark it as "done" because both of us would have received what was promised to us.

Is that proper procedure? That is what we worked out on the phone.

EDIT: The add I was referring to deleting was a trade add that was suggested to me I place in the normal 40K forum because I was looking for Codex and rule books. It just had a link to the add I linked in this thread.

Phone is fine, the only problem is it doesn't leave you with the paper trail should things turn sour.

Precisely.

Always follow up with a written confirmation (email or PM).
Save ALL PM's until after BOTH PARTIES have left references.

Yep, all done. Phone conversations are verified via PM and I will save the PM's until refs are left. This is pretty much what happens at a musician's board I frequent when we buy/sell/trade effects pedals, basses and whatnot.

This is has been a really good experience thus far, and I want to thank the buyer (out of courtesy, no name mentioned unless he specifies otherwise) as he was very patient and understanding with my questions and my phone calls that were sometimes a bit voluminous and verbose.

Thanks all for te guiding hands,

Thanks Pete.

I have had the honor to speak to two BT members on the phone already, and am going to try to meet up with one here locally to watch a couple of games.

But I do have another question...kind of embarrassing really.

I had a member send me some scans via PM as attachments and I can figure out how to view them. I see an indicator of them at the end of the PM, but they don't have a hyperlink for me to look at them.

What am I missing?

Thanks,
Ted
