I'm pondering getting back into 40k again after my 7 year hiatus. I've gotten rid of everything, so I would be starting from scratch. This means that I am completely open.
So, if anyone could answer me these questions, I would appreciate it.
1. Is a radical theme daemonhunter army viable in the current scene?
2. Can you play such an army in Armageddon and Planetstrike?
3. Can someone please give me a general breakdown of what you can take in such an army? From what I recall, it was Inquisitor HQ + retinue, Elite Inquisitor + Daemonhosts, Assassins, IG or Space Marines.
Am I missing anything?
Thanks,
Russ

Re: Daemonhunters
1. Depends. Pure GK is not very viably under the current rules. However, DH with allied IG or SM is viable.
2. All codexes can be used in Apoc and Planetstrike.
3. DH codex is over 10 years old, so if you still have the codex then you can use that. Might want to check the FAQ on the GW website though.

Re: Daemonhunters
1) Not really... but, then again, it never was. LOL
Create a SM or IG army with DH allies and you'll have a far better chance.
You can still theme it as "Radical =I=" forces... but it'll be IG or SM with DH, as opposed to the opposite.
2) Yes.
3) You summed it up, pretty much. Basically, Radicals can't take GK army units. Everything else in the book is open season. Your IG choice from the book is Stormtroopers (don't know how they compare to the current IG codex, though).

Re: Daemonhunters
Your best bet is making an IG list and using the rules to take allied Demonhunters out of the Demonhunters codex. If you play a radical you are REALLY crap outta luck with troop slots because you can only take Inquisitorial Storm Troopers and because they're old they do not get AP3 hell guns. Without access to Grey Knights you're not missing much by not getting access to DH heavy support. So, in my opinion go Guard and mix in some Demonhunters.
*edited to add* The reason I said you're not getting Grey Knights is that because if you go the path of the radical and take demonhosts you are forbidden from having Grey Knights in the same list. The Grey Knights blow up demons, they don't team up with them.

And if your oppenent doesn't play deamons, or at least psykers, your pretty much buying over-priced SM.

It's fun to start with a clean sheet.alienated_one wrote:I would be starting from scratch.

1. It's not competitive, but is good as an Imperial Guard adjunct.
2. Assuming you mean Apocalypse, YES!
3. Download Wolf lair's Army Builder program to get a feel for the various lists.
In general, I'd suggest you look at a Guard-based army. It has lots of options, and you can take Grey Knights / Inqiuisitors as Elites and/or a HQ. Once you get going, get the Daemonhunter and IG Codices and it'll help you refine your thoughts more.
