Monsterpocalypse? Any good?

Post by starslayer »

Hey guys.

This game any good? I dont want anything too complicated. I have had enough of 40K type games with 20 rulebooks.
What would you recommend to start. (besides a Starter set)

thanks for the help.

Nope. But that is because i think it is too simple. However that may be what you are looking for.

Im not liking the "collectible" (?!) aspect. Boosters should be faction specific at that price. Im not buying several $12-$15 boosters with only a slim chance of getting even the faction I play, let alone a certain creature.

At least Arcane Legions has their boosters- army specific.

I guess I'll see if anyone has any decent lots on sale here & Ebay.

I don't play it, but I've talked to people who do. Apparently the best way to go about this is to get a group of friends to go in on it with you. Then you buy the boosters buy the case and split them between yourselves by faction. I haven't heard anything after the first expansion, but apparently the randomization was such that you'd get a VERY even spread of models with no repeats of big monsters in the same case.

I'll never play it because of all the promotional stuff they have that you can only get if you have a local store. There is ONE brick and mortar store in Japan (as far as I'm aware) that stocks the game and I would have to take a $120 round trip bullet train ride to Tokyo just to go there. Not happening.

I think Im going to skip this game. I really dislike random boosters. Especially at that price. The "mega" (or whatever) creature is only clear plastic. Id expect a more ferocious -looking creature. I just cant justify a $100+ price for this game. Doesnt seem a value to me. Maybe i can find a cheap lot to try on Ebay, maybe not.

I played it for a while. I thought it was a lot of fun, but it is simple. I quit playing right before the expansion "all your base" for the same reason you were dubious about starting. I get sick of these "collectible" games. I made that mistake with MTG and I'll never do it again. Once I realized the release schedule of the expanions, I quit. For me, it's just too expensive!!

Cheers,
