Retracting offers

Post by kill4koin »

I made an offer for some models two days ago, the guy asked my location (not my address), I gave it and nada since that time. Clearly, no acceptance of my deal. I now have the chance to get the same items from somebody else. Being a noob, I don't want to mess up. Am I clear to send a PM withdrawing my offer without triggering a bad deal posting? It seems like he's holding out for higher offers and stringing me along. Thoughts?
General expectations
lower rating ships or pays first
similar ratings ship simultaneous
good communication, even if not interested would be nice
deals are swirling, so what's there today might be gone tomorrow
if you want pics, ask, i'm usually agreeable to that
priority or first class unless otherwise agreed upon

Couple things..

1. update your User Control Panel to list your real world location! It will help!

2.. if you didn't agree on the trade, and were still negotiating.. deal away with the new trader. If nothing was confirmed, you do not have to fear a Backout report.

3... if you DO start dealing with the new guy, it IS a very polite thing to let the original trader know you have found things elsewhere, and do not leave HIM hanging.

2+2=5 for sufficiently large values of 2.

If you don't have your Location listed in your User Control Panel, why not take a second and update it? It will let your trading partners know where you are from the beginning.

I use the Unofficial Porkuslime Trading Guidelines - if you have way less refs.. you ship first.

Folks I am awaiting a ref from.. Zack

Thank you for the tips and really fast response. Have updated the location. I had decided to go ahead and contact the seller and let him know I had another opportunity. After reading his feedback comments, I don't think he's really stringing me along, just maybe forgot we were "chatting." Thanks again.

I would send the initial seller a PM telling them that you're assuming that they're no longer interested in pursuing a deal because they stopped communicating with you, so that you're going to look elsewhere.

Then, thank them for their time and move on.

As you guys never worked out the specifics of the deal, it's not a 'live" deal.

My advice is the opposite. Don't cancel this outright until you've made a deal elsewhere.
That wouldn't be stringing him along. It would be keeping your options open. Especially since you're waiting to hear from him.

If/when you come to a deal with someone else, THEN PM him and let him know you went a different direction. If the deal DOESN'T pan out, then you haven't lost out on this potential deal.

If he contacts you while you're still dealing with the second guy, THAT is the point where you tell him you are currently discussing a possible trade with someone else and need more time to make your decision.

Otherwise, there's no reason to kill a potential trade.

Good counterpoints, Eric.

I suggested to close out primarily due to perceived lack of responsiveness /interest in dealing with initial potential trade partner.
