Re: How to paint Space Marines/orks
If you look into the "normal" SM codex you will find a large section of various color schemes.
Armies that use black as a predominate color
Black Templars
Raven Guard
Raven Wing
Legion of the Damned
Iron Hands
Armies that use Silver as a predominate Color
Doom Eagles
Silver Skulls
Doom Legion
I do not know of any armies that use Gold as a predominate color, however it is a common accenting color such as Ultramarines 1st company use Gold as the color of the trim to denote 1st company. If I remember right the common Blue armor, yellow trim is the colors for the 3rd company.
You can do whatever you want for color schemes. All you need to do is come up with a cool name

Re: How to paint Space Marines/orks
Just do a dark wash on them and matte sealer and they should not be shinny.

Re: How to paint Space Marines/orks
I'd advise you do a test model. A good box set that is good for that is this one:

It has single pose SMs where all you have to attach is the bolter and the backpack. I found this on Chaosorc.com for only $8.00.

Re: How to paint Space Marines/orks
Space Marines generally follow the rules for Heraldry, so Silver & Gold would be a bad choice. Black & gold would be OK, but black marines are overdone (Black Templars, original Dark Angels, Deathwatch, alternate Grey Knights, etc.).

They're your minis, so you can do whatever you like.bubbaduck76 wrote:could you paint them all one color like i want to paint mine all black with red eyes and maybe red trim
That said, if you were to do red (or crimson) shoulders, guns, and heads, that should look pretty good. The problem is that all-black-with-some-red is more of of a Sisters of Battle paint scheme.
If you were to paint the models quartered in red, that would be more Space Marines-looking.

Re: How to paint Space Marines/orks
If you follow the Ultramarines "Trim Color Guide" Red is like 6th company. I'll have to go digging through my old codexes to find them. Since chances are you are making a "ultramarines" splinter foundind (your basing the army off of the standard SM codex) you can easily justify any color scheme.

Re: How to paint Space Marines/orks
If you're lacking in the painting skills dept. or just don't have the time I've seen plenty of people prime models black and then paint trim with an off color. You wouldn't be the first or the last. It doesn't look amazing. I'm not going to lie to you. But there's nothing saying you can't play it. Spray the model black, paint red eyes and shoulder pad trim and then metal guns and you're done. Again, not the best looking marines, but you'll be done and playing games quickly. Then later you can always go back and touch them up if you're feeling inspired.bubbaduck76 wrote:could you paint them all one color like i want to paint mine all black with red eyes and maybe red trim

Re: How to paint Space Marines/orks
An add on suggestion to that would be to get some black ink and go over the whole model with a coat or two of black ink after you prime it (but before painting the red).HarlequinZero wrote:If you're lacking in the painting skills dept. or just don't have the time I've seen plenty of people prime models black and then paint trim with an off color. Any recessed areas you miss with the primer should collect the ink, giving you a relatively uniform black appearance. After you give your models a coat of flat spray varnish (often called dullcote or dull coat in painting circles), it'll take the glossy look off of the ink.
