Re: Starting Warhammer 40k
Really that depends. Do you like to have a lot of models on the board? Honestly the two armies play different enough that it's impossible to say A or B without knowing anything you. Do you currently play any wargames? If so what, what force do you play, and why?
By trading with me you agree that all signature based trade rules are not in force. If it isn't in the PM thread then it doesn't apply.

That eliminates several of the marine chapters!bubbaduck76 wrote:but i also like to be a good happy person to
If you think my attitude stinks, you should smell my underwear!
Buy, sell or trade....it's all the same to me. Lower refs pays/ships first!
Tyrants can not be stopped by earnest words and furrowed brows. Action, strong bold action coming from a position of strength and determination, is the only effective deterrent.

Re: Starting Warhammer 40k
Yeah I don't think there is a single happy marine chapters out there.
Unless you count Chaos, them Emperor's Children seem happy all the time
As for your question Do you like playing a specialist army that is flexible and more of a jack-of-all-trades
OR
Do you like your strengths to rely on mass hordes
Do you find yourself liking an army of similar stats and abilities.
OR
Do you like to have "one-trick-pony" units that are the lynchpin of your army?
Do you like being able to fight to the last man
OR
Do you like having so many figures in a fight that morale really isn't an issue?
If you find yourself agreeing more with the first statement in each pair then you will enjoy the Space Marines more
If you find yourself apgreeing more with the second statements in each pair, then you will enjoy the Orks more
Marines are going to be more forgiving to those who are not used to alot of tactics becuase of the higher than avererage stats in everything.
Ork players need to understand that you are going to loose guys, lots of guys, and that to loose those guys it is not the end of the world. (unless you loose your Ork biker nob uberunit)

For every battle honor, a thousand heroes die alone, unsung and unremembered.

Welcome to 40k.. where you want a different army about once a week..
Do both if your budget can handle it..
Do both if your budget can handle it..
2+2=5 for sufficiently large values of 2.
If you don't have your Location listed in your User Control Panel, why not take a second and update it? It will let your trading partners know where you are from the beginning.
I use the Unofficial Porkuslime Trading Guidelines - if you have way less refs.. you ship first.

Re: Starting Warhammer 40k
Seconding this idea. Heck, I never built my 1st army (Tau) and I'm working on my 3rd army (Space Marines) - still having not assembled my 2nd army (Tyranids). But I'm working my Tau into the Space Marines, so at least there is some trade out instead of bumping up continuously.porkuslime wrote:Welcome to 40k.. where you want a different army about once a week..

Re: Starting Warhammer 40k
In a nutshell
Orks -
fluff wise - lighthearted killers, great attitude, might makes right
modeling wise - lots of great kitbash possibilities
on the table - LOTS of infantry models to paint
game play - mainly HORDE .. you will want to charge and get the boyz and bikes into melee.. shooting pansy guns is NOT the way to win with orks.
Marines-
Fluff - almost warrior monks, each warrior has a history and when he dies, his chapter is diminished. War is a religion almost
Modeling - conversion possibilities abound with the plastics, very dynamic poses, can tell stories just by the model
on the table - small, elite force, most common paint schemes are easy to paint and make look good.
game play - shooting AND melee style.. marines are good at both, but every model you lose hurts.
hope that helps..

Re: Starting Warhammer 40k
Either one is actually pretty good for a beginner. Marine armies are generally smaller, relying on smaller baseline troop units for their core and then specialty units/vehicles for specific tasks. Their base troops have better saves than orks and are generally more survivable. Orks rely on either small fast moving units of troops (12 or less in a trukk) or large foot-slogging mobs (up to 30). Either way, their armor save is practically non-existent and they die. As with Marines, they then rely on other specialist units for specific purposes. For both armies, Morale is seldom an issue.
