I hates them, but I may have to use them
You know, I really don't like selling on ebay. It is a pain in the ass. You get charged for the listing and then charged for the paypal payment. I used to sell on ebay somewhat, years ago. Wasn't so bad then. But now...
So I'm thinking that I may end up selling on ebay. I prefer to trade or sell here. But it doesn't seem like I have much luck. Maybe it is my posting style, who knows, do I come across like a jackass? Are my expectations too high? The offers I get tend to be lowball offers. Guess I'm just frustrated a bit.

Well, what are your expectations? Let's take your recent Last Chancer's post. What do you expect to get from them? The most recent ebay sale (ended Oct 3) of a complete Last Chancer's set went for $15.87.

Re: I hates them, but I may have to use them
In your ads you state, "Please PM with offer - please do not PM with 'How much'."
As a buyer, I hate this. If you have something, you know how much you want for it. In not posting how much you want, it seems like you're hoping someone will offer you more for it, and then you'll do the deal at that price. Buyers (like everyone else in the entire world) want to avoid paying more than they have to, so they may offer a "lowball" price to try and smoke out how much you really want.
If you don't want to post a price up front, you should be ready to haggle.

I am always in the market for weird and wonderful GW oddbitz and ephemera. PM me if you have something old/weird/rare.

@John - yeah, I know. And I don't mind cut-rate prices a lot of times.
@don - for the last chancers, I was thinking $20-25 shipped. I didn't see a completed ebay listing for them.

Re: I hates them, but I may have to use them
Yeah, I never used to post that phrase, until every PM that came through was "How much". As a seller, I would like to get as much as possible, just like the buyer wants everything as cheap as possible. But I have that there also as a means to open the discussion. If I put a price, someone looks at it and decides they don't want to pay that much, I never hear from them. Even if I am willing to negotiate, which I typically am.s_o_r_r_o_w wrote:In your ads you state, "Please PM with offer - please do not PM with 'How much'."

and if you havent noticed. no one wants to haggle. Its called bartertown! Lets barter!
I follow the idea LOWER references ships/pays first. It keeps things safer for anyone, as I would never desire to have to start over again. Nor would I want to loose the trust of any fellow gamers. That is how I ended up with my reference collection! I always follow through with my deal!
Re: I hates them, but I may have to use them
Barter = haggle. I'm just looking for greenbacks instead of greenskins.
I have someone offering me a tyranid force for a decent price, so I'm trying to build up the scratch for Hive Fleet Jabez (alternately Hive Fleet Antithesis, or Hive Fleet Reaper, or Hive Fleet Mjolnir, or Hive Fleet Fenris, or Hive Fleet Prophecy).
I actually added prices to most of the stuff. Now I'll see how it goes. I may end up putting some of my RPGs up on ebay. The WFRP2E books are kind of on the collectible side now - but my asking prices are less than what I saw them going for on ebay.

Re: I hates them, but I may have to use them
The art of the haggle seems to have truly died. Even with people posting prices the majority of the conversations goes something like:
Ad: Unit of Painted Empire Spearmen $35
Me: How about $35 SHIPPED for the spearmen
Them: No
Now I don’t really mind getting an offer rejected but I would expect something more like:
Me: How about $35 SHIPPED for the spearmen
Them: Too low for my blood, I'll do $40 shipped though (or $42 or whatever)
I'm not sure if this occurs because people are worried about being offended or are legitimately offended at the offer or something. I understand this isn't a garage sale but what’s valuable to me isn't so much to others and vice versa.
I do understand that’s its painted well, very well in fact. But your bright yellow paint job isn't going to fit in well with my Salamanders Army (dark green being Salamanders primary color)
Out of Print (OOP) items are the same way. Just because its old doesn’t mean it valuable as a rule. Many of the older GW sculpts are really, really bad.
The point of me ranting is that a price tag gives a starting point. If you'd like to get $40 for something, ask for $50. If you LOVE the paint job on the model and believe its worth a large amount of money try to find a buyer that is looking for something along those lines. At least take a picture of it(them).

I disagree. If you want to haggle, put in your post you are willing to discount with a range. Such as 35-45% off. If I put a price on something, or list that shipping IS extra, and then you PM me and try to lowball the offer or get shipping included, all you are going to get from me is NO. To me it shows that there is no possible way you are able to read an entire post and would doubtfully be able to wordsmith a feedback reference.
Now when you post it in the topic, there is the old saying, "Better to shut up and play stupid than to open one's mouth and remove all doubt." At least PM it instead of proving to everyone that reads the post that you really don't care about the sellers stipulations at all.
Lower rating? I ask that you ship first. Also, if I offer a stupidly good deal and you try to negotiate even lower...don't call it bad communication that you didn't get a reply. I deleted the message.

Respectfully, I think you're cheating yourself and others. If I put a price on something, or list that shipping IS extra, and then you PM me and try to lowball the offer or get shipping included, all you are going to get from me is NO.
Don't get me wrong. I'm not dogging your choice not to haggle, I just think you're losing possible deals by only saying "No" to their inquiries.
If I saw your post, I'd probably do that... offer you a lower amount or try to get shipping included (if reasonable). If you only say, "No," then that's it. I won't bother you with a response. If, however, you say "No. Sorry. That is my best offer. It's X% off of retail already," I might just go ahead and buy it at that price. A flat-out "No," though, is going to lose you sales.
It's not about them not reading, it's about them trying to barter/haggle.
Now, if you post in the ad that your prices/shipping are firm, and someone PMs you a haggle attempt... Well, that's just stupid of them and you're being excessively kind by even bothering to answer them. lol

Re: I hates them, but I may have to use them
@MM, you know if it was several items. I probably wouldn't do that. However, when it is one item, retails at $25, offereing to sell it for $10 and a person tries to get shipping included, and as a caveat at the bottom of my ad says "at least lots of $20 and if the price exceeds $40 I will include shipping"....
He is lucky he got a NO. The thing was I had seen him going through the PP forum and doing the same thing to 6 other posts.

Re: I hates them, but I may have to use them
I appreciate someone putting expected prices in their post.
But never put retail prices in your post, I actually put in retail prices in as a reference one time and said i was interested in 60-65% of retail and received not one response. This was for IG just after the codex came out and we all know hoe hot Ig was right after the codex.
Next week I took the retail prices out but still kept the I expect 60-65% of retail at the top and cleaned out most of the lot in a week. With about 20 people being interested.
I don't know if people just looked at the retail prices and didn't read that I wanted 60-65% of retail, or what, but it did have a huge difference in my responses.
If some one puts in "No 'How Much' Pms" I will always put in a low ball offer if I am interested in the product, and I am pretty sure most other people will as well. People just do not understand that it amounts to the same thing. Either put a dang price in the post or EXPECT "How much" Pms. People just think that you are rude and half will not respond. It's just the guys that are really interested in your items that will respond.
I would say that most people on this site EXPECT:
Retail for retail value for trades - Unless substandard quality or its a very low demand product. Or on the other side Excellently painted or high demand
50%-75% for purchase - Unless substandard quality or its a very low demand product. Or on the other side Excellently painted or high demand
If you are in this range put what you want as your lowest variable (or lowest variable -5%)because you know everyone will offer your lowest or lower than your posted lowest price.
I like haggling but i would say 75% of the people here do NOT. A lot of guys want a extremely fast transparent deal that they don't have to waste any time bartering on.

@ Stan... You didn't say that at first.
I can TOTALLY support your reasoning, in that case.
@ Norse...
"No 'How Much' PM's"
I don't respond to those ads at all. If you're selling it, I feel you should have an idea of what it's worth and what you want for it.
The only reasonable exception, IMO, is if it's something with potential collector value, and you're making it an open offer/silent auction type thing "Best offer in the next 7 days gets it."
Just "make an offer," though?... Nah. I'll pass.
