Well, if you want some kick-a$$ power, I've heard from a 40k player(I'm not one myself), that in 8th edition, Tau are going to be getting some new rules that will put them up at the top of the 40k food chain, new shooting rules... Just what Tau needs.
I myself think that Tau will be either the new Daemons of Chaos, hideously overpowered, or maybe the new High Elves, just plain CHEAP if they get the upgrades(I can't remember them) that they're rumored to get in 8th edition(that is what edition 40k is going into, right?).
Necrons... I'm not sure about Necrons, but I do know one thing... Their models look cool as heck. I'd get them if you like good models. Nevermind they're simple to paint. Just need to figure out that third color.
Eldar... I'm not sure about them either, but I have a cousin who is a pro Eldar player, and I've heard that Eldar are very powerful, and some like the models, but you screw up with just one thing, and you may lose two turns, and probably by then the whole game.

I'm sure by 8th edition, that Tau will be decent again, but I haven't heard anything about Tau getting a new codex for 5th edition. They definitely need some changes, particularly in the way KPs are figured with detached drones. The first 3 tournaments had them including the drones & vehicle for purposes of KP, then they reversed that... Crisis suits suck now, and for the "shootiest" army in the 40k universe, just about every other army can create a built that out-shoots tau now... Hell, even Orks can outshoot Tau if they pack a bunch of lootas in to their list.

I'm thinking... Yay! Twelve to 15 years for Tau to be good!
Then, I kept reading.
WH40K is in 5th edition now, and I'm certain they're not even considering a 6th edition yet. It hasn't been out long enough for that.

Okay.
Maybe "considering" it was not the best choce of words.
They make the rules to push the models. As such, ANY edition is in the "consideration" phase (including 8th lol).
"They're not ACTIVELY PLANNING it" would be a better statement, probably.

Eh? I thought 40k had been out longer than FB, and FB is in 7th edition.
My bad. I guess my friend who told me about the huge Tau upgrade must've been wrong too.

WHFB went through a crapload of upgrades in a short time. WHFB was on 5th edition when 40K was still in 2nd edition.

I'm not really sure. I got into GW stuff with Necromunda, which was timed alongside 40K 2nd and WHFB 5th.
