Re: A question about Space Hulk...
Eric,
I have to agree with you about the genestealers. Not counting the poses, the detail on them are crap!
I think that $99 is too much for a board game. But if I could also use the minis in my army then it might be worth it. I play tyranids and I won't use them because of the bad detailing. I also play Dark Angels. If they would have made the terminators without all the BA symbols I would have loved to use them as Deathwing. Looking at the pictures, they did way too much BA stuff and I would hate to have to go cutting all that off. I just don't have the skill with greenstuff to make them usable for my army.
In my eyes, the way this release was handled should hurt GW more that it helps them. Sure they make some quick cash because it is limited but what happens when they are all sold out. You get disappointed customers that could not buy it at this time. Then when they start showing up on ebay for $200 or more, then they lose more money. If somebody has to pay 200+ for a game, that will be 100 that GW won't get by not having anymore to sell, but also another 100+ that will be gone from that persons budget that they won't be buying other GW stuff with.

As far as using them in 40k, all you gotta do(for the termies at least) is magnetize the base. Kinda like how people who play 40k and WHFB have done with their Chaos Daemon armies.

The genestealer poses look like there were copied from the "Horrorclix" 'Aliens' boxset.

Re: A question about Space Hulk...
Yeah...I looked at this and thought "Hey, cool game to play in a couple of hours" but really when you look at it...not all that awesome. I get that it's really heavy, and blah blah but the Genestealers just don't do it for me.
I have to wonder how long it'll be before someone starts posting just the rules online so people can make their own versions of the game or something. /shrug.
Limited release is also fail. I don't think doing an LE test run is such a good idea. You're going to get a lot of bitter people if you make it regular release or not (the ones who bought it LE and then see it regularly released; or the ones who wanted it LE but couldn't get it and won't get a regular release either).

Unless a regular release comes with generic termies and genestealers and only the LE release gets the custom termies. That could be doable.

Re: A question about Space Hulk...
I think their greatest failing with this game was limiting your opportunities.
It's not ONLY Space marines that board Space Hulks.
They could have made it a whole new game so that you could have taken any one of the existing 40K armies. Envision your Orks checking out a hulking floating monolith, only to have panels in the walls open up and disgorge an army of angry necrons.
Or your eldar investigating the corridors of an abandoned Imerial Navy vessel when they discover the Imerium's duplicity. It wasn't empty... they were just hiding.
Yes.
Failure.
If fact, it's so bad I have to misspell it.

Re: A question about Space Hulk...
But you can already do this, just make corridors and go with a lower point battle in 40K. Limit the size of the models, no monstrous creatures, no vehicles. Print out some spaceshippy corridorish terrain, and hit it.

No. Actually you can't.Creeper wrote:But you can already do this, just make corridors and go with a lower point battle in 40K. Limit the size of the models, no monstrous creatures, no vehicles. Print out some spaceshippy corridorish terrain, and hit it.
Have you ever played Space Hulk?
It's not "40K on a ship." It's a totally different rule set.
We've done the whole "boarding action" thing in my group, using SH tiles and 40K rules. It REALLY is not the same. You can usually determine the winner just by knowing the 2 army lists involved.

Re: A question about Space Hulk...
Yep, played it. Got my post edited in this very thread for posting that I was trading 2 copies. With further consideration, it wouldn't be feasible to take the 40K rules and use them as a boarding action. Not because of the rules differences, but because it would be near impossible to match out forces so that one side doesn't slaughter the other.
Take, for example, a marines versus traitor IG. IG have numbers and tanks as their main advantage. This is given up in a hulk. No tanks, and numbers don't mean much when you block yourselves. You might be able to set up a kill-zone with a heavy weapon team, but that's a lot less likely, especially since you'll get the one shot on overwatch, and then the heavy weapon crew are dead. And that assumes you add overwatch back into the 40K rules to do it.
But that second paragraph is also why the idea of expanding the sides in Space Hulk to include other races ends up failing as well. Even using Space Hulk rules, you are talking about a huge divergence. Your comment that just knowing the army lists you'd know the winner carries over to this as well. The more expensive per person force will have an advantage if they have ranged abilities, and even moreso if their melee abilities are better too.

I mean, I agree whole heartedly... but it is in direct contention with your last post.
That's why I asked if you'd played it.
Anyway...
As far as changing the rules to add all races, it could be done.
So, IG, for example... These are Veteran, instead of regular grunts. Being versed in boarding actions, they wield power mauls and carry some sort of assault shield.
I'm just shooting from the hip, mind you. None of this is thought out in advance, so it won't be enough information to create anything from... just "spitballing."
So, since they're OBVIOUSLY weaker than, say, SM's, they get things to offset that. Maybe twice as many units to start with... and all of their Sgt's have PFists?
Perhaps medics that allow "feel no pain" folls, or an equivalent?
It could be done, really.
They'd have had to change the game, though. It wouldn't be SH as it used to be, it would be Advanced Space Hulk (lol).

Re: A question about Space Hulk...
I think they'd have to make considerations to allow for weaker individuals, even beyond veteran status or such. As we discussed, superior numbers don't matter much in a hulk - unless you can set up a defensive line and let them come to you. I thought, in 1st edition Space Hulk, they included rules in one of the supplements that allowed you to include other races, and maybe psykers as well.MagickalMemories wrote:This shocks me.Take, for example, a marines versus traitor IG. Re: A question about Space Hulk...
They had 2 supplements; Genestealer and.... Oh, fudge... I can't remember that one, now.
The Genestealer supplement added the Patriarch (IIRC) and genestealer hybrids that could use guns... Maybe the magus was in there, too?
The other supplmeent - and it's KILLING me that the name's escaped me - included librarians and psychic powers.
"Genestealer" might've had psychic powers, too... I don't recall. it's been a while.

Pretty sure the other one was Deathwing, but I didn't get into Space Hulk prior to 2nd edition.
