Over the years, I've filtered down to a smallish number of 2-player games that I enjoy:

Magic: the Gathering
Even playing "big box" style, this is great fun. Buy a ton of commons for pennies each, and just have at!

Pirates CSG
a "dead" game, but lots of replayability - still fairly available.

BattleLore
Command & Colors Pseudo-Historical Fantasy is great. A little pricey, but tremendous.

I like the various Looney Labs games..
www.looneylabs.com

Their game Treehouse is good for 2 players

Small World is for 2-5 players by Days of Wonder (very scaleable)

-P
2+2=5 for sufficiently large values of 2.

If you don't have your Location listed in your User Control Panel, why not take a second and update it? It will let your trading partners know where you are from the beginning.

I use the Unofficial Porkuslime Trading Guidelines - if you have way less refs.. you ship first.

Folks I am awaiting a ref from.. Zack

Find a card game called Dog Eat Hot Dog. It's goofy but pretty fun. Another great game is called Castle Keep. Hope those help...

Check out http://www.cheapass.com/ They have tons of games from 2-10 players that are really cheap.
They merely contain the basic instructions and playing field (if needed) everything else is designed for the players to raid other board games of Dice, Pawns, and counters.
Some are insanely fun, while others are somewhat lacking.

One of my favorites (though not really a 2 player game) is Unexploded Cow

Call me old fashioned, but I like a good game of Cribbage (card & pegging game). Other good 2 player games - Hera & Zeus (a card game), Stacks (a dice game), Knights (a dice game).

Doesnt appear to be any boardgamers in here. Best advice would be to check www.boardgamegeek.com. They have a tab there of the best two player games. I would say it depends on who you are planning on playing with. My wife enjoys Carcassone and Carcassone castle. I have a buddy who loves to play games like battlelore and hammer of the scots. Stratego is also a great little target, walmart game. Pandemic is a great game that I believe is 1-5 players. Feel free to PM me any board game questions I think my collection of them is up to 80 by now and I have played bunches of others.

Rules
1. I do my best to communicate & ship in a timely matter & expect the same
2. If you or I back out of a trade expect the other to post so in the b/o forum etc, if thats not okay then I am not your man to trade with
3. An offer of "$25" for an item does not include s&h if you are not okay with actual shipping charges from the USPS on top of that then say "$25 incl s&h".. simple enough..
4. Please be polite, leave feedback

I used to play lots of board games, however none of mine were ever 2 player games. I do have a few like Carcassonne (and several expansions) but most of them are simply not that fun without a 3rd person.

Check out http://www.boardgamegeek.com/wiki/page/ ... yer_series
They 're all decent games, but Lost Cities is easily the best 2 player game of the bunch.
