Location, Location, Location!!!!!

Post by starslayer »

Hear me oh great powers!!!

Why?? Why Oh Bartertown Gods is location not mandatory??? Why have you forsaken us in our time of need????!! Why.....

A simple Country/State would save many of us headaches. I get traders who I deal with who never mention they are in another country. Then negotiations must start again. Shipping rates are much different out of the USA, that changes the whole potential deal.

Please make location mandatory!!

In your name I beg!!

I soo agree with you. As every time I get a pm from someone about something thats good.. I check to make sure if its in the US, as if its out.. I usually decide not to, especially if I have to ship heavy things to them in a trade... ask shipping to the uk.. or anywhere out of the US is too dang costly often enough.

*please excuse any typos, I have to get used to the keyboard on my laptop still.*
I follow the idea LOWER references ships/pays first. It keeps things safer for anyone, as I would never desire to have to start over again. Nor would I want to loose the trust of any fellow gamers. That is how I ended up with my reference collection! I always follow through with my deal!

Agreed. A location would make so many trades smoother here.

Lower rating? I ask that you ship first. Also, if I offer a stupidly good deal and you try to negotiate even lower...don't call it bad communication that you didn't get a reply. I deleted the message.

Well good news then..

One of the coding tweaks that is on the list for the site, is updating the Create Account part of the site, and Location will be a mandatory field. So, whenever that goes live, listing your locale will be a requirement.

Meanwhile, for anyone out there reading this..

PLEASE update your Profile in the User Control Panel to list your physical, real world, location! No Tatooine, No Discworld..

Thank you!

2+2=5 for sufficiently large values of 2.

If you don't have your Location listed in your User Control Panel, why not take a second and update it? It will let your trading partners know where you are from the beginning.

I use the Unofficial Porkuslime Trading Guidelines - if you have way less refs.. you ship first.

Lower rating? You ship first.

I'm sure this will help new people to the website, but what about the veterans that still have fictional or non-existent locations?

I'll add to that. All ACTIVE traders. The members you see in the members list are from B-Town and Warhammer40k.com. I don't think you need to put in your city, but Country and State/Region/Territory should be mandatory.

What's the difference. 90% of my trades are out of country. It's all part of doing business. I'm more than willing to eat the shipping on my end (which starts at $12 postage for trackable). Naturally I have chosen to fill in my country of origin.

Want to reinforce this. All active traders are strongly encouraged to list a real world location showing state/region and country AT THE VERY LEAST! If you want to provide a city that is up to you. NO FICTIONAL LOCATIONS. Except for the God of the Webways known as Linrandir. Being the overall site admin has its privileges.

I would have to be the voice of dissent on this one. If it's that important to you to only trade locally or in your own country, indicate that in your sig line or in your preliminary PMs. There are a multitude of reasons for why not to include your home state, address, email, or phone number in your profile. My reason amounts to; "I don't want to", and there should be a respect for individuals who want their (relative) privacy maintained.
Always ship with delivery confirmation, I do the same.

Rating of less than 100 (or with no known traders)? You ship first (for trades and purchases), otherwise, we can ship simultaneously.

YOU must ship your package; not your wife, friend, lover, cousin, or dog. If you are not able to ship packages yourself, then please don't work out a deal with me.

The new sign-up process will make it a mandatory field. If new users are going to have it displayed, then all users must have it displayed. Sig lines can be changed, and user preferences can be set not to see signatures. So having it in you sig line isn't the best idea.

LOL. Who said phone # or address?? If you are trading with someone arent you going to give them a mailing address?? There is no significnt reason not to give Country. It prevents someone offering free shipping- then someone else wanting that offer to another Country. It helps prevent any misunderstandings. But if you dont want to give specifics for "personal reasons" thats fine.
