Need advice on a bad trade

Did some trading my RPGS books for some metal figures guy who sent me the figures just threw them in a simple paded mailer and shipped they arrived bent brocken battered and in pieces. I feels like the guy is clueless but cant be sure what to do now. any suggestions

Contact the other trader and see if you can work out a fix. Maybe get some of your stuff back or maybe he has some other stuff you would be interested in. He might be willing to throw in a little cash or maybe both of you send the stuff back to each other. If he is not willing to work with you to fix a problem that he caused, then the only thing you can do is hit him with a neg. reference and move on.

Take some pictures of the miniatures and send them to him. Might help him to see what problems are caused my bad shipping practices.

Whenever stuff is broken, take a picture of the minis as they arrived.

If he used a padded mailer, that's his fault for bad packing.

You can call off the deal, as the condition delivered is not as he promised. As the fault is on him, he can pay for return shipping postage. Though it would be kinda cruel to just toss them back in the same padded mailer that he used...

Thanks everyone I hear your words
I must say after being a bit angry I did mess up too...I have had tons of good trades on this forum and I may have become to trusting I should have asked alot more questions of a new trader. AND I should have waited before I sent my package. I often send things out before hand when the emails and such come across as someone who is mature and seems to carry thems selfs well.
I was just beside myself thinking "who the Duck" sends metal figures in a padded envolope... sometimes youth is wasted on the young.

we have had numerous folks complain about people sending unprotected figs in bubble or padded envelopes.. even from Asia or Europe.

People just DON'T assume that the machinery could possibly mangle THEIR parcel..

Seriously though, confirmation on what type of packaging should probably be discussed in trade negotiations more. What with the recent rash of problems folks have been having recently. I know I'm going to be bringing it up in future trades.

OK, big spiel added on packing...

You guys don't want to know how many 'jump drives' we pull out of the letter sorting machines DAILY, that are smashed and mangled, when they're sent out in a letter size envelope. Keys are even more so; even the newer electronic type.

The automated letter sorting machines move the mail BETWEEN belts. The belts are rubber-backed kevlar or nylon. The belts move 175 INCHES per second, going between two machined stainless steel rollers,with 2 millimeter clearance with 25 pounds of force/pressure needed to move the rollers apart.

The machines that sort large envelopes is a bigger version. It 'injects' the envelope [called a flat] down 1 foot, in 1 second. I don't recall how fast it moves, but the 'chain' that drives it, can barely be budged, 1-2 inches at a time], by 2 large men pulling it with their body. The buckets that carry the flats are on hard rubber wheels, that can grind up a thick book or catalog.

The mechanized and automated machines that sort parcels, at about 15 MPH. It drops the package, about 3 feet. There is no method to stop the force or inertia from it's movement.

The large[r] boxes are sorted with mailbags on a mechanized transport, that is 1 story tall. It slides them down a metal 'teepee' and the stop against the frame edge. {picture being pushed at forward at a concert or crowd, against a steel wall.} [There was a movie that had Tim Conway as a USPS worker. It showed him in/on the teepee.]

They're not handled as badly as the one Jim Carey 'delivered' at the beginning of the Ace Ventura movie, but when things go wrong they can be.

You should take kturock's advice at exactly what those machines do.

Anyone ever see MIB2? The scene in the post office where the alien is rapidly distributing the envelopes into the slots.
Ok increase that speed by x2 or x3, and have it go through "basically" two rollers that are designed to move pieces of paper, not things with actual bulk.

Now take your 1/2 inch thick metal model, accelerate it, and run it through those rollers. Watching the sorting machine work is absolutely amazing that it doesn't screw up more often.
I took a tour at a "slow" time where it wasn't even running at full capacity.

There are 2 rollers at the start that pull the mail along. They are the 1st of about 25 sets, just in the 1st 2 section of the machines. There are 2-5 'bullwheels" [large 10" diameter drive wheels] depending on which machine it 'starts' it's run.

Letters, are 'run' through anywhere from 3-5 sorting machines. That doesn't included the canceling machine. It's about 2 stories high and the huge [3'-5' long, 12"-18" in diameter] stainless steel rollers can [and have] rip a person's arm off.

I just got to work on a new machine today, it handles sacks of mail, that weigh up to 75 pounds.The induction belts [belts that 1st transport the mail] on it are 34" wide by 140" long. It throws the mail onto a 24" belt. I don't know what speed it travels, since I had to R/R the belt. Which is all rubber and heavy.
