Rare Earth Magnets

Post by Imaginos »

Any recommendations on rare earth magnets? It looks like there are several different alloys these are made from. Is there anything to watch out for? Any recommendations on online sites that sell them in the US? Since I'm going with Tau, I want to use them to be able to switch out weapon loads.

I got mine from this site (http://www.rare-earth-magnets.com/Searc ... ID-28.html). The ones at the top are perfect for Crisis suit weapons.

Others on here might be able to suggest a cheaper spot to get them.

There are two way to use them. Magnet to magnet OR magnet to metal.

I used www.kjmagnetics.com. They seem to be perpetually running sales.

K&J's over stock section has provided me with just about every magnet I've used so far. As long and you are willing to get "just about" what you need you can get exactly what you want to something really close for really cheep.

I can add to the K&J chorus. ZD1 mags are cheap and great for magnetizing bases.
If I don't get what I think I am getting you will be sending me money for me to ship it back to you. So be very certain I know what I am getting.

Also more of what I don't want doesn't make up for not getting what I agreed upon.

Either will result in negative feedback, posting of our records in the appropriate section of bartertown, and possible mailfruad. Otherwise don't trade with me.

I ordered from K&J over the weekend. The order arrived today, and I am very happy. I ended up ordering 3 different sets - all told about $30 with shipping. Now here is my question, how in the world do you handle these tiny things??? My wife asked me if I wanted her to go out and pick up some bifocals so I could see them. Funny lady.

Actually, on this topic, what size of magnet is good for magnetizing SM dreadnought arms?

I used 1/4 x 1/16 size rare earth magnets. Also I get my magnets from Incredible Magnets on ebay.
I will only ship to Canada and America, no exceptions (OK, maybe sometime :)).

Well I purchased a big batch of 6mm x 1.5mm (roughly 1/4 x 1/8) for "universal purposes"
I've used them for holding on sponsons, light flight stand vehicles (My falcons are mounted with these), and my dread is entirely setup with these (FW dread has waist magentized as well)

For mounting weapons it depends on the mount. For my predators sponson weapons, Wraithlord shoulder mounts, and Falcon weapon mounts I used these.
For my Eldar grav platform and Tau Battlesuit I used 1/8 x 1/32.

I've found that these two sizes generally cover just about any vehicle/weapon mounting I need to do
