How long is long enough to wait for a package?

Post by northoceanbeach »

I made a deal with the guy over a series of PM's over three days. At that point I paypalled him and he said he might be able to ship tomorrow, if not the next day.

A week later I asked if he had and he said he got busy but would toimorrow.

A few days later he said he lives in a small town and the PO was closing down for the weekend but he dropped it off and it will go out monday.

A week later he said he ran into the mailman at a restaurant and asked about my package and the mailman , while showing him his truck outside the restaurant, found my box underneath his seat. He said it went out and should be here soon.

That was last monday, it still hasn't arrived, I wrote him Sat. morning but he hasn't been back online.

What should I do?

This all began April 24 or 25.

Also, if I ever do receive it, what would prevent him from giving me reciprocal bad feedback in retaliation if I gave bad to him first?

That is classic. He's pretty much down to "my dog ate it" as his last excuse. I have never heard the above used as an excuse. You have been more than patient. Especially with those kind of replies. Is this a trade within the USA? Or is he shipping something international?

Tell him you are considering a Bad Trader Report and a Paypal dispute. Hopefully, that will get him moving. Let him know that he will probably get a negative reference unless he takes care of everything ASAP. Although, it looks like he deserves one already (and I am usually pretty laid back). ASK FOR A DELIVERY CONFIRMATION NUMBER! It doesn't sound like he has shipped it out yet (considering the lame-o last excuse).
Also, if I ever do receive it, what would prevent him from giving me reciprocal bad feedback in retaliation if I gave bad to him first?
It's against the RULES. I am sure that either Magickalmemories or Porkuslime will show up and give you a quote of the actual rule. They would also probably be the guys who would enforce the rule if he decides to stupidly leave a retaliatory reference.

Lastly, KEEP ALL THE PM's AND YOUR PAYPAL RECEIPTS. If it comes to a Bad Trader Report, you WILL need all of that stuff. If you are unsure of the BTR rules, you really should read up on them before you start a BTR.

I hope that helps.

In my case, I won't wait more than a week for proof of mailing / tracking number.

In your case, if he hasn't given a tracking number and proof of mailing, I feel pretty safe in telling you that he's lying until such time as he can prove otherwise. His excuses are lame and not acceptable.

I'd start PayPal non-delivery complaint immediately and *force* him to prove he delivered. If he doesn't provide actual proof of mailing, then I'd also initiate a Btown BTR by the weekend. Depending on how little or much you care about PayPal, I'd plan to start a disputed charge with your credit card company to force a chargeback on the payment.

Note that a tracking number by itself isn't good enough - if you look it up, it actually needs to show that the UPS / USPS / FedEx has the package in their possession and is in the process of delivering it to you.

"A week later he said he ran into the mailman at a restaurant and asked about my package and the mailman , while showing him his truck outside the restaurant, found my box underneath his seat. He said it went out and should be here soon."

this is an out and out lie. the guy who delivers his mail, isn't the same guy who takes the mail from the post office and brings it to the main building for sorting. it's not even the same size truck, let alone the same truck. [btw, there is no way to overlook anything in those vehicles. you empty them from the back and can see under the seat, from the outside.]

contact paypal, and file against him there. request a refund. it's probably too late, since he probably already took out the money.

contact him once more and tell him that if he doesn't ship within 24 hours, you will contact USPS and file mail fraud charges.

then print out everything that both of you pm'd and/or emailed. and call the usps inspection service. it's listed in the federal government section of you telephone book.

then, file a BTR here to warn everybody else who he is.

IF somehow he manges to ship, all the charges can be dropped, the BTR can be listed as resolved, and the paypal refund can be cancelled.
Heh, I was called a Grognard. ;-)

Someone rang?

To quote the new and improved Rules of Bartertown, section 11..
Rule #11: ITL or Reference intimidation
ITL (AKA Reference) intimidation is a first-offense ban.

What qualifies as ITL intimidation?
In its most direct form, ITL intimidation is when someone says something like "If you give me a bad trader report, I'm gonna give you one."
Anything that is not so direct, like "If you don't give me a good trade report, you'll regret it" also may qualify. Note that giving someone retaliatory feedback qualifies as well. No free hits.
If you are not sure, please contact either myself or one of the moderators. The equivalent level of evidence required for filing a bad trade report is necessary: emails with headers, PMs, and so forth.
If someone Retalitory Negative Ref's you.. unjustly and only because you slammed him first with a Valid BTR and Ref.. Karl is right.. they will be gone from the site and you will have your Feedback edited.
2+2=5 for sufficiently large values of 2.

If you don't have your Location listed in your User Control Panel, why not take a second and update it? It will let your trading partners know where you are from the beginning.

I use the Unofficial Porkuslime Trading Guidelines - if you have way less refs.. you ship first.

Folks I am awaiting a ref from.. Zack
