In my opinion it should go in the video game/board game section.

Thank you,

It would go in whatever section that your trade "wants" would be in.

Hmm MM, what if you don't want anything here (I know, why are you here in that case right?), where would it go then?

Also, Video Games? Board Games? How does an Ipod apply?

Closest answer would be MM's since it is a generic response you can put anything in your trade list as long as either your Haves or Wants include items for that forum. But maybe there needs to be yet another "Other" thread???

Get rid of Paintball, get rid of "all other auction links", get rid of "collectibles." Replace that all with a big-fat thread called: "OTHER!!!"

TECHNICALLY, IPods don't belong on the site for general sale. Bartertown is a site for trading GAMING material. That's why there's no specific forum for it (and no rumblings in the background of it even happening).
That being said, we're not militant about the "gaming" thing, either. Heck, we have a "collectables" forum that often has G.I Joe's and (non-CMG) Star Wars figures in it.

If you want to ditch an IPod, but only for cash, then I'd say to put it into the forum that CLOSEST resembles where it would qualify. Since it's an electronic item, I'd say Gerry's suggestion (above) would be the best option in that case.

I would like to add, that the iPod cannot have anything on it except what came with it when it was bought.

I feel like all I ever do is complain and stir the pot of unrest, but can I ask why the above is true??? Songs on an Ipod would be illegal because...????

It's illegal. Violates copyright law. Is the guy trading the iPod going to pay the royalty fee, to every musician that he has on the iPod, when he sells it with the music on it?

Bingo!

Same reason we don't allow .pdf copies of gaming material to be sold on the site... not even if you LEGALLY bought it from Paizo or another company (when WotC was allowing them to sell the stuff).

Illegal pdf's are illegal pdf's, Legally purchased pdf's, though... Ther's no way to ensure that you deleted every copy that you have of them, so they're still off limits. Works that way for music, as well.

So you're just assuming that the songs on there are illegally downloaded or what?? Because otherwise it isn't illegal to sell them or every pawn shop, library, music and used game store in the nation would be breaking the law by sellikng used CDs. It's the same thing in a different format. The original purchaser paid the royalty fee with their purchase, subsequent buyers of the used merchandise are under no obligation to pay those same fees again. You really think Warner Brothers gets a second cut when you buy a used movie from Amazon???

What they are pointing out is,say load my 200 CD collection onto aIpod/MP3 player and thenwant to trade it away. The thing is the person getting the Ipod/MP3 player isnot getting the CDs so they have not played for a licence for the music. You can also replace the CD part with paying to download music or apps onto a player too.

It's like TGK said, the guy selling the CD's is selling the actual item he bought. If he made a copy of it, or downloaded it to his computer, he's breaking the law if he does not delete those files.

Same goes with mp3's. Even if he's only selling that IPod for $5 -and it's a 40 Gig IPod- if there are still songs on it, he's selling the songs, too. That is illegal if he's kept copies of them (which, likely, he has) and... well, I don't know the legality of it if he's deleted the copies. I presume it'd be legal... Either way, though, we can't guarantee that he's deleted those files. So, it's better to err on the side of caution and say "no songs on the ipod," so we don't risk getting caught in the middle of anything.

Even if it has been legally downloaded you still aren't allowed to distribute the songs without paying a royalty fee everytime you distribute it. This is why Napster got shut down. This is why Pirate Bay got shut down. That is why a radio station has to pay a royalty fee everytime a song is played. The entertainment industry is really starting to crack down on illegal distribution (aka pirating) of their product.

IMO pirated music/games/movies are a major reason why are economy is in the gutter.
