@MM: In certain MMO games you can. Most likely though I'd kill ya and loot your corpse. Then revive you and tell you someone else did it!

I don't play MMO's... I don't like video games, almost at all, really...

... But what about a PVE server? Aren't there areas where you CAN'T attack other players?

Some sites have "safe zones" for newbies, but once you get out into the "wild" you are meat for the vultures.

Oh well, my thread is completely derailed. Better derailed in a good mood than a bad one though!

Warhammer Online Intro movies if you haven't already seen them... Everytime the camera focuses ona character, that is a character you can play in the game, like the little Goblin Squig Herder, the Dwarf engineer, the Bright Wizard, the Shadow Warrior archer chick, the Marauder with the shape changing arm, Orc Choppa, Dark Elf Sorceress, etc etc... That big guy is(you know it...) Avatar of Tzeentch, and that guy with the staff is Tar'zanch? spelling...

Chaos Chosen, High Elf Archmage, Empire Warrior Priest, Dark Elf Witch Elf, Dwarven Slayer, Black Orc, all fun!

It is a badass game.

Here's a video of me a long time ago when I was lv38 in the Destruction capital city defending it against Order invading it. Yes, thass me! ;p

WATCH IN HIGH QUALITY - HD mode... Normal doesn't do video justice...

You can get a hint of the gameplay from that video.

It depends on the game. Some systems have it set up where you can attack anyone anywhere, some require you to be in a specific area to attack other players, some require you to perform a specific action. There really is almost as many different ways as there are games.
By trading with me you agree that all signature based trade rules are not in force. If it isn't in the PM thread then it doesn't apply.

just to shed a little more light onto this topic and ask an interesting question.

we all know the aforementioned is against every ELUA, because it is their IP and as much as you want to say your items and characters are yours they aren't. In fact even the game is not yours. When you buy a game you are basically buying a liscence to use the game, this is why many free server versions of MMOs get shut down hard as they are breaching the liscence usage agreement.

Now i ask my possibly controversial question. if Bartertown is so against having players buy/sell/trade their online accounts then why do they run ads for websites that offer the same ILLEGAL services?

That is an issue with google ads, and as soon as they are identified, TMA nukes them from orbit.

IIRC, usually the "illegal" banner is a google banner. I believe you actually got to go in and edit out which banners you don't want, but google updates them, and you got to go do it again, and again, and again.....

Can't catch em all!

i can't ding Google to bad cause ima stockholder and all lol.

i hate IGE.. yes i do.

on another side but yet still related issue there are some games that let you sell characters, items or gold for cash shop money. This is common in Free to Play games like Rohan Online where you can sell characters, items and gold for currency to use in the cash shop to buy special items or to use to buy other characters, items and gold. This is completely seperate from the in game Auction House.

In Eve Online you are able to transfer characters as well, but most importantly you are 100% legaly able to buy/sell/trade time cards for in game currency (CCP is 100% aware and is fine with it). So if you make enough money in the game you can never have to pay a subscription fee as you buy the time cards with your in game currency and then use the code on the card to pay for that month.

And then there is Project Entropia, the oddball of all MMOs. this game has no fee to play; however if you want to buy stuff you need money. Simple solution is to whip out your ATM card and use it at the in game bank, what it does is use your real credit card to buy in game credits at a rate of 200 in game $ per your $ (exchange rates apply for different currencies). so if you want to spend a little you spend a little if you want to spend a ton... the thing about this game is this transfer of funds WORKS BOTH WAYS!!. so if you were to find some "uber loot" and sell it for a pile of cash you can withdraw it from the game (after some exchange rates) and have it deposited into your real bank account......

Since we're off topic now.. the EULA, End User License Agreement has changed over years.
Some games have even changed them since release; like Everquest.

Microsoft has changed their EULA to read that the 'computer is the user of the software, and you use the computer, not the software.

I ran into that problem back after Windows XP was released. I had to call to activate after I upgraded my motherboard, cpu and hard drive. I was told my a CSR, that I had to buy a seperate copy of XP for each of the 3 computers in my house, that I owned for personal use, if i wanted to run XP on them. [I had them running Windows 98 on them, and it was an upgrade version, that I purchased.] Then, the CSR tried to tell me, I "MUST have had a pirated version, since I paid $79.99" for it. I told her, they "need to go check Costco, cause that's where I bought it".

I asked, aren't I allowed to use it on more than one computer? She was the one who explained that Microsoft changed the EULA, and that I wasn't the user, just the purchaser. {The coputer used it, and I used the computer.}
Heh, I was called a Grognard. ;-)

Lol, funny thing, User: "Google [BOT]" was browsing this thread when I came in to tread the last 4-5 replies. I should have got a screenshot for some /lolz.

Anyways. The entire point of this thread is being missed, and while I have yielded to the derail train, I still think that IF people are trying to go back on topic they can actually reread the previous replies so they don't simply repeat everyone else's replies and ask everyone else's questions.

I made this thread wondering "why." And got (what I assume is) the most appropriate answer from Magical. "Its against the Rules of the Game Manufacturer, so its against our rules." That is fair, and just.

And to someone who posted earlier... You actually DO own any material game(CDs/Booklets/Maps/boxes).. And such can SELL those items(even on Bartertown) if you wanted to. Only material items however.

I do not however own my characters/accounts/items/gold etc etc... IN THE GAME. But if I didn't feel like playing the game anymore, I could sell MY CD KEY <----- Which I OWN, to someone who could then play the game(as long as they paid for the monthly fee of course)!

But again, where do we draw the line? I cannot advertise I am selling an MMO account, but I CAN sell my CDs/Game/CD KEY to someone... EVEN IF THAT CD KEY IS ATTACHED TO AN ONLINE ACCOUNT...

Where do we draw the line?

According to Ebay(I've actually sent them an e-mail). You is ALLOWED to sell your Game CD-KEY as long as you do NOT advertise that CD-KEY is attached to an online account. Even mentioning you have an account tied to it is grounds for them to delete your auction.

/sigh

Sooo confused. Again, I do accept that since it is against the EULA of the Game Company, it is against Bartertown rules as well. That is fair.
