WoW Loot Cards
I don't know if this issue has been dealt with in the past, but I can't find it and I find the forum rules on this a bit hazy;
I have a WoW Spectral Tiger Loot Card that I am looking to sell or trade for MTG cards. What I'm unsure about, is this an abuse of the MMORPG rule, even though the card is from a pack of WoW TCG cards that I had bought? Please vets, help me out here, as I would like to err on the side of caution.
Ted.

Re: WoW Loot Cards
Ted,
Good of you to ask first. Bravo on that.
Does the card have anything to do with the online game - if so then IMHO you shouldn't trade it here.
If not - if it is only for the CCG then no problem trading it on the board.
That is my opinion.
Thank you,

Re: WoW Loot Cards
But that's the thing. It is for both. You can use the card in the TCG like at a gaming convention, and you can scratch the code and get an in-game mount. So, I'm lost.

Re: WoW Loot Cards
It is a Loot card, which is a code for an online item or bonus nifty .. it IS also a CCG card, but I only have seen folks using the "spent" loot cards in that way.
I think it IS to be considered an online item.. not an account per-se, but something that DOES fall under the MMORPG ban. Sorry.
and.. if I remember right.. it is a PRICY online item too,...CoolstuffInc.com and Trollandtoad.com both have one for sale at a GRAND.. each.

Re: WoW Loot Cards
I think we should poke Lin for an official call on it.
Personally, I think it SHOULD be okay (Note "should" does NOT equal "is"
). I mean, you are trading a physical item. If you had an unopened/unused copy of Everquest, you'd be allowed to trade that, since it's a video game & no account info or "belongings" are being transferred.
It doesn't say it in our current rule but, at one point, it specified that, since the MMORPG had rules against selling items your characters had, or selling those characters, that we would respect that rule (not the exact wording). Selling this card doesn't violate any of their rules (the MMORPG), though.
Let's take a look at the BTown rule:
Would anyone have a problem with his trade if the card were a CCG (CMG?) card with NO ties into the MMORPG? Probably not. Seems illogical to me to make one card from a set "off limits" because it CAN cross over. What if he sold a blister/booster and, when the guy opened it, this card was in there? Would he have inadvertently broken the rules?
I don't think it's fair to say something is off limits as a single when it would have been acceptable if sold as part of a group (in a blister/booster).
I know some of you will be surprised at my opinion, considering my usual tendency towards conservatism where the rules are concerned. IMO, though... until it's converted to an electronic item, this is, simply, a card.
Eric
(Sorry for my generic terminology in relation to the WoW CMG. I don't know if there are card games, too... or if the card just AFFECTS the CMG or what. It was simpler to be generic.)

Let's take a look at the BTown rule:
While the ad doesn't specify it, it sure seems geared towards the items owned by your online character, and the character/account, itself. Especially when you combine it with our open rants about the MMORPG gold farming sites whose banners show up here via google occasionally.Rule #11: MMORPG Accounts/Items/Currency Are Forbidden.
Do not post ads selling or soliciting MMORPG accounts, items, or currency. No Everquest, no Diablo 2, no Star Wars Galaxies, no World of Warcraft, or anything else in the multi-player online roleplaying game genre.
First time, a warning. Second, a suspension.

Re: WoW Loot Cards
The card itself has 2 different abilities .. one in the CCG, one online. There is a scratch off code on the card, (covered by silver). If the code is covered, there is NO WAY to have unlocked the item online (my understanding).MagickalMemories wrote: (Sorry for my generic terminology in relation to the WoW CMG. Also, once you have used the code online, it becomes part of the account.. and cannot be traded or gotten rid of. I think it become tied to the character. This particular card gives the "best" of these online abilities.
I should note, I am not a MMORPG gamer.. I am recalling stuff from the card game when I used to play it. There is no link from the online game to the CCG ability of the card.

Re: WoW Loot Cards
I was more referring to how the CMG game worked (Re: booster/blister). How the card worked in relation to both games was fairly clear.porkuslime wrote:The card itself has 2 different abilities .. one in the CCG, one online. That's why I'm prone to think it's okay... it's a physical item that is being traded. If he was only trading the CODE off of the card, I'd have a problem with it.

So, is there an admin that can help me straighten this out once and for all? I'd like to trade it if possible, but if I have to take it elsewhere, I'm not going to violate B-Town rules.

Dual use technology! Oh, Dual Use Tech, how you complicate the hell out of my life.
Because the card can be used to affect the online environment, in essence providing an item or useful widget, it falls under the ban. However, that is not its primary purpose. It's a trading card that happens to have a bonus feature. Therefore, it does NOT fall under the ban.
But it can't be both. Pay attention, here is the official decision FOR THIS SITUATION ONLY. You may wish to thank Mrs. Lin for her input on the matter:
You MAY trade/sell the card on Bartertown.
For everyone else, this is NOT repeat NOT a blanket permission. For dual-use items relating to MMORPGs, you must ask moderator/Watchman/Admin permission before posting the item.
Mods, Admin, etc: Discussion in private to follow for precedent purposes.

Re: WoW Loot Cards
Me personally, I wouldn't want a "used" card. So if I were to trade for said card, it better not be scratched off. Besides, scatching said card would depreciate it and ruin its collectors value.
So why not amend the rule to say "unused" cards only?

Re: WoW Loot Cards
here's a quick thought.
ebay does not allow MMO anything for sale on the site..
they allow loot cards to be sold, since it is a real item that has a use outside of the MMO; even after the MMO code is used.
i sold some there when WoW ccg released.
