I have brought this up to the other mods before, as I said previously.

It stopped dead in its tracks at a senior mod who basically told me this will never happen in so many words.

I wouldn't hold your breath.

This was back in April of 2008, mind you.

EDIT: Went back and found the post, here is a direct quote of what was told to me when I said we need a board games forum:

"The eff we do.

No one plays Board Games these days.

Silly."

When pressed on the matter, he simply replied:

"VETO!"

Of course we do! Every one has collectibles. Oh wait. I thought you meant boardgames. :-D My original idea was to start a thread where people could post saying what games they have and what games they'd like to try. Then people with matching games could trade games for a set amount of time. You'd have to pay shipping but it would be a lot cheaper then buying them. I have the following.
Settlers of Catan
Settlers of Catan 5-6 player expansion
Seafarers of Catan expansion
Knights and Cities of Catan expansion
Fishermen of Catan expansion
The great river of Catan expansion
Settlers of Catan Rise of Rome(a stand alone board game not an expansion)
Batue: revenge of the Horse Lords
Civilization the board game
Battlelore the game of fantasy battles(fully painted)
Battlelore the Scottish wars expansion
Axis and Allies: Control the Fate of the World
Axis and Allies: D-Day
Risk
Khet

I would like to try the following games
Domain
Memoir 44
Battlelore: Call to Arms
Now I could go and spend a lot of money to permanently buy these games or I could swap a game I'm not using often for a game I'd like to try for say two weeks. At the end of this time we'd ship the games back to each other(unless you really like the game and then could make an offer if the person was willing to sell).
Obviously if you were swapping a very expensive game for a significantly cheaper one you'd have to have some sort of insurance like a certain amount of money given to the larger party(like if I was trading a complete collection of fully painted Battlelore with all the expansions for a set of snakes and ladders) If we could get the mods to see a need for a board game forum then maybe they would make one. Who else on here would be interested in a board game forum? Or who else has board games or board game expansions they'd like to try?
LOOK OUT FOR THAT HAMMER!!!!!!

1. Less refs you'll probably have to ship first,
2. Please pm me even if a simple no. I will always try to do the same for you
3. PLEASE tell me what edition your warhammer stuff is! If you say you have a model and don't specify people assume you mean a seven edition. Not a worthless fourth edition.

Add Tide of Iron to your list. If you think you might like Memoir 44, you might like it as well.

That was the other one! I couldn't remember but I knew there was another game I wanted to try. Hopefully someone else out there(especially a mod) will want a board game furum. We should write up a list of all the reasons we should have one.
1 It would create more hits for the site
2 There would be more stuff to trade and sell
3 There would be a forum for just about everything related to wargames(and some things that aren't).
4 People like us would be happier with the site.
5 We would stop using forum space to ask for a board game forum.
There's a few right off the top of my head, any more?

6 The Mod staff would get to stop saying "Yeah right... VETO!" all the time. (would save them the hassle)
Go on, laugh! But one day, you'll be sitting in your house feeling all safe and secure... Then you'll look over and I'll be there... Doin'... stuff!

Actually, it doesn't have to go to Adam. Lin can do it.

What does it take for HIM to do it?

1) Get a bunch of people to post in this thread that they want it.
2) PM LIn with a link to the thread and as him for it
3) Wait for him to log in & get the PM and hope that he thinks it's worth it.

That's how we got the Bits forum.

I think a board game TRADE forum sounds reasonable... a board game "BORROW" forum... not so much.
There's too much hassle on how to handle it if someone's game is returned ad missing pieces, but the other guy says they were missing when he received the game....
There's
"Hey! the corners of the lid weren't blown out when I sent the game!"
"Yes they were!"

Or:
"I sent you the collectible version of 'xj-42 Titan Strike' with the alternative pose walkers. The one you sent back was the original version!"
"No, man. I returned what you sent me."

The possibilities are endless. And, before anyone even THINKS that these types of things won't happen, you ned to peruse the BTR forum and the various threads in this forum and "Misc Messages" to see some of the crap people pull.

I think the forum SHOULD be created, but it should be a "straight trade" forum. if individual traders want to let each other borrow games... then, so be it.

BTW, I'm looking for 1 game:

Candy Man (Violent Candyland copy)

LOL

I think this is a great idea... I have about 50 board games that I would love to trade for other board games.

However I think shipping is going to be a killer.

I'm sorry I didn't make myself clear, I would like a board game forum. In that forum I'd like to post this thread. And I'd like it too be just games and expansions. Were not talking warhammer or other wargames. Just straight board games/expansions. Shipping would be tough but it would be a much cheaper way to get a game then just buying it.

Well, here is your forum:

viewforum.php?f=56

Courtesy of Linrandir (ah... the power of the PM).

I really don't think your idea will work all that well, but I guess it is worth a try.
You would do better to just treat it like any other forum for trading. At least, in my opinion.
