Re: Lack of willingness to propose offers??

Post by bluemeenie »

IDK...I have to say as a somewhat new trader I did find I daunting the first couple of trades as I didn't really know what some of my items were worth.

When I did make my first full post of tradable stuff I remember getting some many responses I wasn't sure if I was just offering really good stuff or if I was in fact just shooting myself in the foot by not asking for it's real value.

I do have to say that I found most I traded with were pretty fair in their offers or even their comments if the trade I proposed was especially egregious. On the whole if you have a 0 trader rateing and you do something like that most of the older traders will let you know when it happens :)

Though TBH I still am somewhat perplexed by the people who put trade adds up looking for brand new landraiders or drop pods and offering like 2nd edition orcs of what not in exchange....I just can't comprehend someone just having one sitting around and then wanting to trade it for extremely old pieces that don't look as nice sometimes...

It has always made me wonder if those posts just mostly get cash offers and if they do, why not just buy it off the Warstore...

(course I'm not the type of guy who just accidently buys 3 extra drop pods and was like...oppps..how'd that happen :) )

(BTW Karl.....QFT is a positive acknowledgement in L33T speak...keep with the times old man :P )

There are collectors out there. I personally collect the metal 2nd edition marines. After all, I got extra arms and backpacks, but never seem to have enough back torsos or legs. At least the old metal SM come with legs, torso, and head.

You would be surprised what people buy on a whim, then wind up not using.

My buddy bought a 3k Imperial guard army assembled 2 k of it, played 4 games and said he didnt like it. Now wants to get rid of it. He has another 1k of stuff he didnt assemble. Which is all NIB waiting for a new owner. He didnt even consider that there is a new codex coming out he just wants it gone. Some people are like that.

I know myself if someone has a few items I really want, and they want a larger lot from me of stuff i am not using. I will usually try and make up value of stuff that I think will be more tradable. So you may get a NIB Landraider or NIB CSM squad that you are not going to use as an extra in a trade.

You wouldnt believe my project box of new blisters that I will eventually use, just not now. I probably have 50 Blisters in there. People that have played for a long time just generate clutter from ideas that sounded good at the time. That's what happens when you have many armies and not enough time to finish them all off like you want to. They just pile up over the years.

Man. Earlier, I was going to ask what l33t is but I forgot...

So, what is l33t or leet or whatever that all is?

And I USED to think I was an ancient one here, but I have been disabused of that notion.
There are quite a few of us old codgers who still love their toy soldiers. It does kind of make sense in a way.

I'm not sure the whole context, but it is using letters and number interchanged l33t = el-eet = Elite

I find that most people who use text speak use it alot and vice versa (Text Speak, text message abbreviations)
I don't do either, I know how to write whole words, and I'm proud of that fact.

Oh no. Not text messaging!

Why would you text message on a PHONE, when you could just CALL them?

Never understood ANY of that.

And I agree completely about USING the English Language. But, that is one of my pet peeves.
That and guys who want retail on Bartertown.

I guess I am one of the "OLD CODGERS" as well. However I did play WoW(aka Death of True Hobbying) so I know this crap known as "l33t speak". Basically I think it is a bunch of lazy kids that can't spell and try to make there incompetence look cool by putting in numbers and capital letters so it looks like they are trying to misspell the words, and not just look like a lazy underachieving moron that they are.

I also agreed about with you other old codgers about the idiocy known as text messaging. Hey guys there's this new technology that allows you to actually talk to the other person it's called a phone.

Woooh... I guess you guys found a nerve.

I think most of us old codgers get a little grumpy when we see something societal we don't like. Man, I remind myself of my dad.

I must be getting old.

Get your wives a Hobby!!!!

It miraculously opens up a free night for gaming each week where she doesnt want you around, and won't bug you while gaming.

I recommend quilting.
Long hours
She can stll look after the kids.
It's Cheap (unless she asks you to buy her a quilting machine)
You get comfy blankets to paint while under.

My wife crochets.. has a bi-weekly group that gets togeather and does yarn things..

On the off weeks of her yarn group, I get to play 40k..

it works, and one of us is allegedly in charge of the kids .. just swaps weekly.

In charge of the children???? I didn't think that was possible. ;)

My wife has hobbies. One is scrapbooking. Word to the wise, don't let your wives do this one. It costs more than 5 metal Imperial Guard armies. And takes up more room than if you decided to start scratchbuilding Apocalypse models all day long.

Of course she also has Tyranids, Warriors of Chaos, and Sisters of Sigmar. Sometimes, she even sits down and paints with me, but that has become a rarity. Probably the kids fault.

I think we are digressing from the original posters rant, but hey...

Agreed 99.95% of the time. My boss (an attorney) uses text messaging to tell me he forgot a file, and to run it over to him while he's at the courthouse, esp. since the judge would fine him for making a phone call at the same time.

Ok for all the Old Codger's (which truth be told I'm getting close to it) here is a small thing on Leet Speak.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leet_speak

now it's not a complete listing, and alot of it you just have to pick up on, but my job is in IT and I guess because of that, and I've been working with computers since 90 I have kind of just seen it as part of that evolution.

I did play Wow for awhile and that also was like a language immersion class...

I will say this, if you guys hate it what ever you do, do not try twitter. It will drive you batPOOP....I mean POOP
