I figure you guys must chat each other up, show pics of ideas/armies and such as it is not allowed in the trader forum...but for some reason I can't find it. :P

in the rules it says there is one but heck if I can locate it.

Well, it's the warhammer40k.com tab up at the top of the page, but it's been down for a while.

No. It's a throwback to when BTown actually had TWO sides to it. There was the side we're using now, then there was the "discussion" side. It was all "discussion" topics. No trading.
Everything from "rate my miniature" to "better places than here" to "Adult Swim."
It was a barely used portion of the site. a dozen posts a day on the whole thing would've been a lot.

It didn't survive the transition to the newest incarnation and, though I've heard nothing official, I don't anticipate seeing it return.

Unfortunately the 40k site is down, possibly never to return. To my knowledge the site certification expired, and hasn't been renewed. So maybe now we should rethink the idea of adding the discussion boards back.

that would be cool except for the fact that he wants to keep bandwidth down on this side of the boards and I think a discussion section here might generate a lot of extra traffic.

Who wants to keep bandwidth down?
Where did you hear that?

I'm not saying you're wrong, but I've heard nothing like that.

Its in the rules silly......

Does anyone read the rules section when they join???? or am I the only one :P

Rule #12: Ad posting Frequency & Post Bumping
Post-bumping is annoying. No one likes it. Don't do it.

Please note that Bartertown users are limited to one ad per forum per seven calendar days. This keeps board clutter and bandwidth use down.

For those of you who don't understand this: Look at a calendar. If I post something on 3 July in the 40k forum I may not repost anything to that forum until 10 July. That is seven calendar days. It's a legal term.

Well, let's see, B-town and WH40k are run off the same server. WH40k is down, maybe gone. If so, putting a discussion forum on here might not be too much of a problem. Most likely no real change in the bandwidth when WH40k was up and running.

Oh, and that rule is there because some people decided to repost their ads everyday and it got very annoying.

No MM doesn't read the rules, he just struts around like a big rooster making rules up as he goes.

Dude.
You're way off on that one.
That rule specifically refers to ad posting and bumping. It has nothing at all to do with the discussion side of the forums. In fact, that rule has been around since we had the discussion forum... they coexisted.

You're taking the comment out of context. It's, essentially, an ADDED reason why post bumping isn't allowed... in fact, the rule is obsolete since bumping is disabled and the ad forums have the automatic limit on them.

When the rule was initially written, bumping was allowed and was excessively abused.

Well, if Warhammer40K.com goes belly-up, shouldn't we TRY to have a discussions side of Bartertown. I mean these guys have put a serious number of posts on the website and they will need some sort of outlet...

Right??

Oh, by the way, I like the rooster analogy for Eric. It goes right along with his title. It brings new meaning to the "in it for poutry" idea.

I never used the warhammer40K.com site, but i did like the discussion forum here.

As noted, it didn't get much use - probably because most people didn't know about it. I wouldn't mind seeing parts of it return in a more visible form (though i agree with MM that it doesn't seem likely to happen). The software that runs the site supports subforums, so there wouldn't need to be a separate board like there was before. A single discussion forum could be added to the 'Bartertown Information' section with subforums added as needed. Since it would be on the main page, people would actually know it existed.. And since all the discussion categories would be subforums it wouldn't take up much space, meaning you wouldn't have to scroll past a dozen different things to get to the trade ads.

If any discussion area is added, i'd prefer it stay bartertown focused rather than just becoming the new incarnation of warhammer40K.com.
I follow the generally accepted practice that the person with the lower rating ships first.

This keeps board clutter and bandwidth use down
This was what jumped out at me, not really the whole rule per say. I figured if you were having bandwidth issues just with the traffic on the trade forums then that was a major reason why you guys probably didn't have a discussion forum. :)

And to the Warhammer40k like part.....I'm gonna tell you I didn't really even notice that up there the whole time until someone pointed it out..(and it is disabled).

I think a discussion section would be awesome down towards the bottom (so it doesn't detour from the trade section) as that would be a great place like most said for comments, critique, and even feed back on modeling ideas that might even help the trade section.

Say someone posts a pic. of something they are working on but seems like they are missing something or would like to get opinions...then they post find out the item would look even better say with a kick butt terminator sergeant sword, and then go up and post a bits/trade request.

But I'm the new guy here so I do understand my opinion holds a little less wieght..

(and I will definitely not pick on MM !!! :D)

I have seen this kind of quote a LOT lately. And, personally, I don't think so.
Everybody's opinion matters. Some of us just type more. ;)

Now, the moderators and administrators obviously have more say in matters. But, I REALLY think they try hard to listen to everybody and use the thoughts and opinions of everybody to make this site better.

And Eric, I wasn't picking on you. I just saw the word "rooster" and I thought it was funny!
Blame mrrshann618! It's all his fault for putting images of roosters and poultry in my poor head.
