It appears that paypal says they support chargebacks (because I don't think they can stop them), but is paypal going to get angry if you try it (since they are simply the middle man)?
In the past, credit card chargeback has been a very good way to get money back.

Paypal *hates* chargebacks, and will often suspend accounts that use this to protect themselves. If you're going to chargeback, I suggest to clear your PayPal account first, issue the chargeback, and then deal with PayPal afterwards.

What the hell is a charge back?

NVM I looked it up on Paypal. unfortunatley it wont work for me because I used cash from trades and sales to pay The_Trader not credit card.

That is why PayPal forces you to pay out of unprotected existing balances, rather than choosing to fund transactions entirely via heavily-protected credit cards that you can issue a relatively painless (for you) chargeback against.

Brian Thacker wrote:Here is probably how paypal will react. They will probably give a quote that since we paid not using ebay they will not be able to do anything. However, since so many of us are affected, if we all escalate to a claim they will shut his current paypal account down and any money currently in the account will be divided amongst all. This is small consolation to the group of us that are affected. The best course of action is to apply pressure on him in the UK. I have not had any contact at all since November. Has anyone had contact with Joe? How many of us are affected? I have counted nine but someone mentioned at least 19-20 deals...

Brian

Ok im going to post this ONE time in this thread....

Im the BTer thats in regular contact with him. Before anyone thinks im in out it, think again. He also got me for 200 in supply costs on a commission he wanted me to do.

That said, im working with him and everyone that has sent me a PM to get whats possible back. Money wise. gone. Dont expect any kind of money.

Those that paid for models, he does have some of them. I note some because he for sure double sold things, and also sold things he didnt have.

He didnt do this to brag, he told me this because frankly he is terrified as he should be. A cousin to one of the victems lives less then 6 miles from him. Not to menthion other BTers around here either llive in the UK or near here.

For the record he hit at least 19-24 people. (his own words)

On his behalf he is a kid and simply didnt think he could get into trouble once it all got overloaded.

Im very close to getting at least a few of the models back which I will then send to the rightful owners. After that he really does want to settle up money wise each time he gets a paycheck.

Now with all that said, if this fails and he is simply BSing me, remember, dont kill the messanger as im simply helping the BT community.

One more small FYI, ive comunicated tons of info to thost that need to know and a few others. There is no need at all to post it all here unless either Lin or MM tell me to.

Final note, anyone else trying to organize this, go ahead. But remember one thing, who has actually talked to him in the last week or so? Who had him post he was trying to resolve this? and most importantly, who had him take pics of the models he does actually have.

There are more pics of a baneblade too. Im waiting for pics of the rest of the stuff as I had him take those about an hour ago, so it would have been like 6 am there.

He really does seem like he is trying to resolve there.

Well you know redstarone, that is really big of you. However being one of the ones that was ripped off, I haven't heard hide nor hair of what you have going on. Joe, if you are reading any of this feel free to contact me. I just want to know the truth from your own hand. I really don't care what happened to the money. I just don't like the fact that ONLY redstarone has contact with you. Which is fine, but like I said I want to hear from you.

He responded to an email of mine yesterday evening. I am going to pop over to a friend's tomorrow so I can talk with him(He indicated to me as well that he wants to try to resolve this. This may be BS, but I want to give him a chance to explain what he is going to do for us. It sucks because I am in a very remote area of Florida right now with poor cell coverage and limited Internet, but I am going to be a friend's early in the AM to get in communication with Joseph. (I am posting this from his home right now). I have totals for money lost from everyone who has posted here (either from your BTRs or your PMs) and I fully intend to make clear to him we all need our money back.

I am mad as hell, but I do agree with redstarone that I think is young and I think he is realizing now what a stupid, stupid mistake he made. I will accept nothing less than a good faith effort on his part to pay back each one of us, but I do want to give him a fair chance to do that now that he seems to be coming to his senses.

I will post an update as soon as I can.

I have not been able to contact him. He has not responded to my emails today either. Really ticked that he was not there or willing when we were supposed to talk, but not surprised. Has anyone else heard from Joseph?

How young are we talking here? Because if he's still living with his folks, it would seem to me that parents need to be contacted about restitution. Nothing teaches a kid the value of stealing a dollar like having to deal with a mom and dad that had to pay it back. He's not feeling guilty he screwed you guys - he's freaked because he knows he's due for a Texas style ass whoopin', and someone lives close enough to deliver it.

If, however, by young you mean 18-24, I believe it would be time to avail this dude to the proper authorities. What he's doing now is trying to prevent himself from getting beat down like the little weasel deserves. Next time, and there will be a next time, he'll be sure to use a PO BOX or a local abandoned residence. This bit of fraud needs to be dealt with with swift and brutal reactions.

Mail fraud is serious business. Don't let this little $#*%heel off the hook. If he's not doing time or getting the boot party of his life, it better be because he or his parents paid everyone back - after a tearful apology.

19 ive been told but I figure younger.

He lives with his mother.

Call her. He will s**t his pants.

As for me, I have to many ongoing commissions to deal with this. Im taking my loss as a stupid mistake buying supplies. I do still feel bad for the others that were ripped as they cant simply "absorb" the loss like I can. (I can use the supplies for other commissions)

Arma... I don't know what you're thinking (I haven't read any farther in the thread yet, after seeing this post), but I am NOT enthusiastic about the "tone" of that post.

I don't care WHAT this guy has done. I want to officially go on the record for saying, ON BEHALF OF THE BARTERTOWN WEBSITE, that Bartertown DOES NOT condone violence of ANY SORT on the perpetrators PERSON OR PROPERTY.

On a personal note (not directed at any individual)... IF I FIND OUT THAT ANY BARTERTOWN MEMBER IS RESPONSIBLE, DIRECTLY OR INDIRECTLY, FOR VIOLENCE OR HARM UPON HIS PERSON OR PROPERTY, I WILL MAKE IT MY PERSONAL MISSION TO HAVE YOU PERMANENTLY BANNED FROM THIS SITE.

Thank you all for your time.

Really people, put the noose back in the closet. Let the authorities handle it. This is turning into a feeding frenzy with people that aren't even the slightest bit involved raising pitchforks and torches like an angry mob on a witch hunt.

It's like a bloody head in the middle of the road. You have to LOOK at it, but if you rubberneck it too long something else is bound to happen.

I know all of you that aren't involved are saying it's for the good of Bartertown. No, what's best for Bartertown is to provide the information needed for the ones involved to take this up with the authorities and let those same people post BTR to warn others.

Even joking threats could be taken wrong, and will be in this current atmosphere.
Lower rating? I ask that you ship first. Also, if I offer a stupidly good deal and you try to negotiate even lower...don't call it bad communication that you didn't get a reply. I deleted the message.

I will be the first to say that I am really angry about what happened, but I don't like the way the mood is turning. Especially from people who were not among the victims.

Besides, I strongly suspect that vague threats intended to sound sinister may have put paid to any hope we had of negotiatiating a solution.

I really don't want to be associated with any threats/intimations of violence. I will continue to pursue recourse on my own, or perhaps in conjunction with a few of the others who were taken, but I do not see anything productive coming from continuing the discussion here openly.

Good luck, everyone. I'm out.
