Stupid non-bumping forums!

Post by JohnHwangBT »

Can we have "bumping" restored for ALL of the non-trade forums?

It's just stupid having to scroll down to find active threads in the Discussions and questions forums, when the forum could make this easy!

Heck, this also applies to the Good / Bad / Backouts as well.

There you have it, folks. 4 out of 5 traders recommend bumping forums over non bumping forums.

Besides the whole squirrel thing, is there a particular reason you're against this for the non-trade forums?
I follow the generally accepted practice that the person with the lower rating ships first.

Actually, the squirrel thing could be fun. You never know.
Yeah. I'm sick like that. LOL

Personally, I don't like the bumpable format. That's it. Just that. I don't like it.
The IDEA is fantastic. Unfortunately, and I've seen it WAY too often, there will ALWAYS be people who will bump their own threads, not because they have something more to say in them, but because they want their threads near the top, being seen and commented on.

Maybe JoeTrader, a new trader, starts a post asking for shipping advice and the only person who responds is kturock. He doesn't know kt, so doesn't know as much of his background as the rest of us. Maybe he doesn't like what kt has to say, and wants to see other input... So, he bumps his post.
It's annoying.

For the record:
1) If there IS a trader named JoeTrader out there, don't take this personally. I just thought up the name on the spot.
2) Yes. I know that, if you wanted to argue the example, instead of the point, you could make possibly legitimate arguments in favor of bumping IN THIS CASE. MY point is not THIS CASE. It's the fact that there will always be people who will needlessly bump old threads just to get more visibility on thier post.

Also, there are a LOT of idiots who scan through the boards, posting to old threads, bringing them back from the dead. I see it ALL the time on DakkaDakka... They see a thread they like, comment on it, and -it turns out- the dang thing is a year or two old and no longer relevant.

Just my opinion.

Just make it a rule that a person cannot self bump their thread or double post. If they do, then suspend them for a week. Or delete their post.

That's fine with me, IH... on one condition.

YOU have to volunteer to be the Mod who is the contact point for ALL notices of bumping/self-posting and handles all of the suspensions and resulting PM complaints.... daily...

Deal?

My point is that it's WAY too much work for the Mod staff to have to do that and those of us who used BTown back when bumping WASN'T disables know that it WILL get out of hand.

The difference is that, back then, the trade forums were bumpable.

We're talking about NON-trade forums being bumpable.

There's a big difference.

It has it's pros and cons, but it would still only be the "Bartertown Info" and "Good and Bad Trader Messages" and their respective subforums. The Warhammer40k site is bumpable and we don't have too much of a problem with people abusing it, but we also have a lot more mods over there to police that kind of thing.
