Stupid Question re symbology

Post by H W Raney »

A rather stupid question on my part but I've noticed that occasionally the small circle with bar lines in front of the subject topic will have a small star or, on one of my outgoing PMs, three inverted triangles in a smaller circle. I have no idea as to what these are or their significance. I'm hoping someone with more net or board savvy can help. Please?
Personal Guidelines:
PayPal or MO are both welcome.
No trouble with Canadian or overseas orders. Just please be aware of the extra time and postage costs involved.
Significantly lower rating ships/pays first - this goes both ways.

The red star in front of the post indicates that you have posted on that thread. I'm not sure what you mean on the outgoing PMs though.

Thanks for the info on the stars - figured it was something of that nature, though the why is beyond me. The triangles remain a mystery though.

Well, as for the PM's, let's look for some info...

What are the specifics of the PMs? Are there any similarities?

The PMs that these triangles show up on;
Are they outgoing or incoming or both? I know you said outgoing in your initial post, but are they on incoming, as well?

If outgoing:
Are they in your Inbox, Sentbox or both?
Are they on responses to PMs or "initial contact" PMs?

If incoming:
Are these responses to PMs you've sent or "initial contact" PMs?

If both:
Are these responses to PMs you/they have sent or "initial contact" PMs?

Are these PMs going to and/or coming from anyone with a "special" status (Mods, Admin, Watchmen)?

I'm certain that, with a little deductive reasoning, we can figure it out.

My curiosity is piqued. I haven't seen anything that matches that description. In addition to what MM said, If you can post a screenshot of the symbol, that might help.

Is the symbol with triangles showing up on bartertown or another site?

(You'd think we'd have better things to do than try to figure out the meaning of some random symbol.)

These are all the ones I know of. I made this list a while back on my forums so people could know what icon means what but I have never seen one that you are talking about with inverted traingles. PM's use mainly the same icons as posts so I'm not sure what you are seeing. Is there anyway you can post us a picture of one of these and I'm sure I'll recognize it then.

BTW: This should be a list of every icon prosilver uses for boards. And I can't find anything resembling the inverted triangle.

Surprizing how much attention this has attracted. Don't know if I'm gratified or scared. In any event, here are the particulars;

A short PM in my Outbox since 15 Nov. It is a response to another incoming PM and has one embedded quote. No other PMs in the Out/Sent/Inboxes have a similiar marking.
The symbol is attached and actually saved as "radioactive". It covers about 1/5 of the bar circle and is located in the lower left quadrant.
Bout sums up my knowledge.
Gotta love a mystery
Wayne

PS My mistake. The message that I quoted from my inbox (from the same person) also has the radioactive mark.
Bad feeling about this.

Radioactive. Topics with this icon contains statements which have not been varified despite a good-faith effort to do so by the Moderators or Administrators of this forum.

Hmm I looked this up and this is what I found. I'm not sure how it applies because I have never seen it before. Maybe it has something to do with the quote or something but I can't for the life of me think how this description would apply.

Ahh I figured it out! I never noticed it before but those are misc icons that you can put on your own posts. You must have misclicked when making that pm and choose the radioactive icon for that specific pm. Go to your pm inbox and create a new message and you will see where you can choose a PM icon.

Good detective work.
Despite sending numerous PMs, I didn't even know those icons were there. I wonder how many other board features I'm oblivious to.

Great catch craasher, and my thanks to all.
